Shoulder Pad advice

Recommended Posts

did a search and couldnt find anything that fit my question..

Ok, so im tried of my big, bulky, bauer shoulder pads and want something a bit more low profile. I like having protection on the chest so, that eliminates the old cooper style. I do need decent shoulder protection, because I'm quite possibly the shortest guy in my adult mens league and I find that my shoulders are inadvertent targets from elbows and butt ends (none of them intentional, I've had guys on my own team accidentally whack me).

I like the look of the vector line up, theyve got pretty hardcore looking chest protection and a really low profile. I picked up a pair of the 8.0s at my LHS and found that they were heavy as shit. and that stupid exoskeleton crap on the back made me shy away.

So, anybody have a suggestion? maybe lower model number vectors to get rid of that back protection and possibly weight too?

DR SP15. It has a plastic insert in the middle of the chest and spine but is a very light pad.

Chadd, top of mind, would you know any place where we can get this particular shoulder pad? I'll also google it now.

Found em here if anyones interested.

I don't run a shop anymore but the 15 was the pick for the beer league guys who wanted something a little more protective than the "classic" pads.

Try the website, there is an email link to find the nearest dealer, just turn down the volume before you click.

Take a look at the Itech 220 or 440 shoulder pads...They may look ugly in terms of their colors, but the flexability, low profile caps, and chest and spine protection is great...I think the 440 would be right up you alley way...

You could always cut the shoulder caps off of you current pads. I hated my Easton armadillo caps, so I cut them off and I've been much happier.

what kind of eastons do you have.

i was thinking of doing the same thing. The outer cups are so huge it's hard to get my sweater on! I probably don't need all the protection of the easton UL pros, but i am still learning the ropes and like to have it.

I've got an SMU from Canadian Tire called "Xtreme Catalysts" or something stupid like that, but they are essentially the same as these Syngery 300 pads

I just cut cups right of the shoulder and left the little foam flap to cover my shoulder. I had the exact same problem where my jersey wouldn't stretch over the pads, and I found it really irritating. My mobility is much improved now.
