Sherwood RM9 or RM19 ?

Recommended Posts

The RM19 is real nice. It should "woo" all of you light-weight freaks. Great feel, good balance.. they had 3 different variations of the RM19... Coffey, and 2 other players who's names slip my mind right now. (I believe Dulac was one of them) Some of the RM19's were clear (no grip), and a couple had what was printed "Medium Grip" with was a slight tacky surface, combined with a textured composite like the NBH Supreme One90. Keep in mind, the RM19 is SOP, so these were probably made to my lhs' specs. It was priced at $219.00, which was a little out of my range during the holidays.. plus, I was a little leery dropping $220+ tax on a stick that the verdict is still out on.

I am looking for an upgrade to my RM7 in the Coffey pattern. For some reason, Sherwood did not make the RM9 in a Coffey, or else I'd snag one. And I really can't afford to buy the custom RM19 at $200+ each with a minimum order of three.

Could you (or anyone else if the've seen one) tell me the name of your LHS where you saw an RM19 in a Coffey pattern? I'm looking for a Lefty 80-85 flex, regular grip, Coffey pattern of course.

Thanks much!

My LHS has quite a few RM19's they actually have some custom RM19's that are really sweet. One extra long length 75 Flex that looks great for a taller player.

saw those custom rm19s at majer hockey in toronto. extended length shaft, different curves and flexes too

Isn't the Stastny the new Coffey?

Stastny pattern? Is that new for 2008 or something? Haven't seen it out anywhere.

Anthony,

Where did you see these?

Pure Hockey in Braintree, MA had a handful of RM19's at one point. This was a while back though... I can check next time I pop in. Give one of their retail stores a call, they're not an e-tailer, but from what I've heard they go above and beyond to take care of people requesting stuff via phone/email.

Thanks a lot man. I've been to their store in Nashua, NH once when I lived in Vermont....seemed like good guys. Now that I'm in Kansas (!), it's been wicked hard finding gear, and I end up having to buy on the web site unseen (which is so freakin' frustrating). Hopefully these guys can hook me up and I can end my seemingly endless search for the perfect stick...

Meanwhile, if you make back to the Braintree store and see some Coffey lefts, give me a shout. Thanks again!

without remembering the stats, i'd say 480-500. very comparable to the dolomite or ST.

the RM19 is that heavy or the RM9.. you'd think the RM19 being sherwoods top stick it would be more around 435.

I'd say your right on with that weight. My RM9 weighs 475 grams cut down 5.5 inches and taped up. The RM19 is a shade lighter at the same length (remember they are longer sticks at 63"), but neither are ultra light sticks in the least.

The biggest problem is they feel heavier than they are because they are not well-balanced sticks. They are very blade heavy compared to other top-end OPS. IMO the RM9 is better balanced than the RM19 so it feels lighter in your hands, regardless of the actual weight. If you want lightness and balance, get a different stick....unless you can find a prostock RM19. I had one and it was nothing like the retail model -- light, balanced, great puck feel, and very responsive.

I was debating on this or the new Mission Titanium but I didn't want to get chirped for it being Mission but whatever it seems like the RM19 has all the things I dislike in a stick so Mission it it aha

Actually the RM19 (Red shaft grip) I just received is considerably heavier than my RM9! Cut down to the same length and taped it is a whopping 515 grams, as heavy as my old RM7! My RM9 comes in at 475 at the same length and tape job, and as I said above is better balanced than the RM19. Lets just say I am looking forward to the 2010 SWD OPS (the 100 model) which are supposed to be "the lightest in the business and and best balanced" according to a Sherwood rep I know. Maybe they've learned something from incorporating TPS technology.
