curve question

Recommended Posts

I would like to start using comp blades because (i hope) they will be more durable than the cheap wood blades i use now.

A team mate uses Ferland blades, they feel pretty light and he said they are holding up great.

But my LHS doesnt carry ferland blades/sticks, so i'd have to order them.

And thats the problem, i cant see the curves in person and i dont know wich curve i should order ..

The curve i am using right now is a nike "st. paul", slight mid with a neutral face. I would like to have a similar curve on the Ferland blade, a little more curve and a slight loft would be ok, but it seems that every "european" curve is huge ...

The curves i can choose from (on a Ferland "thunder" or "star") are:

Thunder: HS 3, HS 24, HS 91, Star: HS 25, HS 27, HS 29

So what would you think are these curves compareable to in easton or bauer patterns? The HS 25 seem like a sakic with a little less loft and the HS like a sacik with neutral face?? (and HS 27 = sakic?)

Maybe some of the europeans on here played with any of these curves?

I dont use Ferland, but a lot of my teammates do. I wanted to give one a try but i think ill stick to other brands.

But, Ferland isnt too expensive and their products are okay if you dont have such a big cashflow.

Uh, yeah HS27 = Drury clone.

Hurricane and Storm are their best blades.

where can you get Ferland blades in the US? I definitely want to try a couple of those curves.

btw to answer your question I'd think the HS3 or the HS9 would be what you're looking for. They both look like the are a mid with a neutral, possibly closed face. The HS3 looks more like a kink(flat bend) than a rounded curve. Any idea of what lie the curves are? I think that might be an issue.

thx sven and tbl!

I think you can only get them in europe

(at least there are just european distributors in the dealer section)

www.ferlandhockey.com

the HS 9 is just available in wood(blades)

and the HS 3 only on the "thunder" blades.

The webside says the thunder blades are 100% comp (so no special core?) but the better ones ("star" and up) have a "high density foam" core, wich is probably much lighter? (sounds like the original synergy blades)

But the Star blade is not available in HS 3 ..

So would you agree HS 25 looks like a less open sakic?

DR/Ferland does not do sticks in north America. They had them on display at the show in Boston last year and they're really nothing special.

I just like the curve choices. I'm willing to try any blade, I mean hell I have a Fury blade... Who knew that it'd have great feel, kinda sucks that it started to get soft really quick. For a while I really liked the blade.
