Computer Mouse Question

Recommended Posts

God Damn.

Leave it to some of the people here to make something as simple as a mouse and make it into a 2 page topic that doesn't even answer the poor man's question..

Here is the simple answer.

You have a "ball mouse". Its called a ball mouse because it has a ball it in that moves the cylinders inside letting your computer know where to put your cursor ("the pointer thingy").

There are 3 kinds of computer mice.

1-- Ball mouse. (oldest and most annoying. I don't even think they make them anymore).

2-- Optical. (Newer technology. Works great. Currently the standard for basic computer use. This is the "red laser looking thingy" mouse.)

3-- Laser. (You don't need this). Only hardcore gamers and people who have too much money spend money on laser mice. Most of these have a hole on the bottom but you cant see any red light coming out of the bottom.. It scans more times per second compared to an optical mouse, but I doubt you would be able to tell the difference.

Here are a few that I recommend for quality.

I used one of these for 3 years. Very comfortable and tough as nails.

This is the one I currently own. The only reason I have it is because I had some money to burn.. Besides the shape, I don't notice a difference between this one and my older mice.

And leave it to you to blow things out of proportion and begin the dramatics.

Nope, no extra cables, he just ment if you are plugging it into the USB port it will work. Sometimes mice and keyboards use an older connection called a PS/2 port, Mac mice won't work in PS/2 ports.

Those Mac optical mice are nice, the one thing to keep in mind is you are giving up the ability to right click. If you are fine with that then get it, especially since its a mouse you know you'll like. Apple has a new mouse out that is somewhat similar in design but adds extra buttons, its called The Mighty Mouse. If you want to stick with the old mac mouse design that would be a good be though I only know for sure that the wired version works with Windows PCs. There are many other good mouse choices too, BK suggested some good ones.
