Anyone See the spear on Crosby by Jason Blake

Recommended Posts

Never seen him dive? Ok, you just lost all credibility. He's well known for his diving and a lot of NHL players have spoken about it publicly and privately.

...And there we go, the "hater" tag. If you say anything negative about Sid, regardless of the validity, you become a hater. If you can't continue an intelligent debate, just stop before you resort to using that tired tactic. Calling someone a hater makes you look desperate. As I've said numerous times, he has world class skills, but he also has some flaws. Just like every other player in the league has flaws.

I am a Crosby fan in spite of his flaws (sp???lol), which are basically no more than immaturity.

As far as the "spear" went...to be 100% honest...I think the larger transgression was Crosby's..for the dive he took. That "spear" was so weak for the reaction it invoked, I would be totally emabarrassed if I were the one writhing on the ice when I saw the video after the play. I am not at all surprised he did not want to make any comment on it...he looked foolish enough rolling around on the ice...

However I do think it's just something he's been told to do by the coaches, because he has gotten at least his fair share of cheap shots in the past two seasons, and I am sure he has been instructed to "make them pay" whenever he has the chance.

As such I wouldn't be quite so fast to assign him all the blame to him for these dives....The biggest blame I would assign would be for the quality of his acting...which is no where near on par with the rest of his game.(including his "going after Blake" post spear.....lolol....)

I think Crosby will be the one to get roasted in the locker room at the all star game, not so much for the dive, but for his "soap opera" acting abilities.... :P

Do not recall Sid diving, I must say I don't get all his games but for the ones I saw, there was no diving, he's actualy hard to take down from what I saw, one knee down at most and he manages to keep the puck or completing the play....

Sounds like you are hating on are 19 year old scoring leader...

Sorry man, but he embellishes quite a bit. I'm a huge Pens and Crosby fan and it's true. Not to the extent that the whiny Flyers or Nolan try to make it out to be but he does go down easy sometimes, especially considering that 95% of the time guys can't pull him down when they are hanging all over him. But, as was pointed out, he gets cheap shotted as much as if not more than anyone in the league so it all evens out.

Let's not forget the kid is 19 years old, and expected to be the team leader...no doubt getting all kinds of advice as to just how to effect that...

I say cut him some slack while he finds out for himself just how he needs to act to accomplish some pretty major tasks that has been thrown his way....Not only to be the leader for the Penguins, but to be the poster boy for the NHL....no pressure.....

He's the one who thought he should be the team leader last season, it certainly wasn't his teammates.

When did this happen?

I didn't want to be the one to bring up the whole diving thing, but I definitely agree that Crosby over reacted to that spear... and lets be honest, a spear is with the butt end, that was a hook in the stomach (not that its much better).

And I don't understand how someone can say that "crosby is so hard to knock down" and "he's not a diver" in the same discussion. If he's so hard, then why is it that a decent amount of the time when he's not in a scoring opportunity and someone does something, he goes down like a ton of bricks?

No, a spear is when you take the blade of your stick and push it forward into someone. When you lower your top hand and jab someone with it, it's a butt-end.

Wow, obviously some of you guys have never taken a spear... it doesn't take much to feel it, especially if it's getting jabbed into your rib/side torso area. Sid going down after the spear was one of the legit times he's gone down. Pathetic that NOONE on ice went after Blake though.

guys love to attack Sid, i guess it has to be annoying to see a young guy be so much better then you and make it look easy...

No it's because they don't respect him. His talents are undeniable but so are his flaws.

Chadd,

I'll go easy: Give us your top 3 NHLers with less than 4 years experience and why, pros and cons. Just curious.

Obviously you haven't watched enough games. Sid literally drags guys around the boards and has his way with them most of the time. If he was actually easy to take down then there wouldn't be much of a case for diving. Occasionally he embellishes, you don't have to go down on every play for people to call you a diver. Really, one or two and you have the Flyer Nation up in arms.

Hard to pick just three. obviously we all know the top two, but Bergeron, Vanek, Frolov, Malkin, Lundqvist, Miller and Lehtonen all deserve serious consideration.

Crosby - Amazing skills and incredible vision. All of his flaws could be written off as lack of maturity, or he could be a whining diver with a Jesus complex who doesn't like to be touched. I'm not a fan of his cheap shots away from the puck or trying to get his coach fired just a couple weeks into his career either.

Ovechkin - Natural scorer with supreme physical skills. Sometimes Ovechkin puts his head down and takes the puck without trying to work within the team system. I'm also not a fan of his constant quest to change hockey style with the visors and skates. He could be a young guy who is more talented than his teammates and trying to lead by example and put everything on his shoulders or he could be a puck hog who values style over substance.

With those two it all depends on what preconceived notions you have of them going in to the situation.

I think no one responded because there was less than 5 minutes left in the game and no one wanted a game misconduct or worse. If Crosby has any balls he would square up with that guy next opportunity he has. Even if he took a beating it wouldn't be a bad one and he would earn some credibility with the other players.

what if he breaks his hand in the fight? theres 4-6 weeks out. even worse, what if he gets one-punched and knocked out like mario did back in 89 or so? then the pens are completely screwed. the pens would be okay if say, ryan malone or colby armstrong gets hurt. if crosby gets hurt, who do we have? malkin cant do it alone.

i dont know if i would say that - its hard to fight someone that doesnt move and just stares at you

blake acted like he didnt want any part of it - so who knows if they would have fought or not

crosby was certainly pissed enough...

I looked at the spear at least 10 times..it barely glanced off his abdomen, and the Kid dropped like he took a 400 grain bullet to the gut. I am sorry...just "bad acting"...another sign of his immaturity lol.

Slightly off topic, i just saw a 2003-2004 game i think it was the 2nd to the last game between the isles and the rangers during the season, a fight broke out between aaron asham and matthew barnaby and the whole think ended up with mark messier pulling jason blakes jersey around his throat, that was pretty crazy... blake said he wasn't gonna have his first career fight against messier....
