SRS and Stick Fix

Recommended Posts

Has anyone on the boards gotten their sticks fixed by these brands of stick repairing systems and if you did what were your intial thought of it at first and after youve had it done and was it worth fixing? and hows the durability of the stick afterwards. And what company's repair sticks i know theres SRS, Stick Fix if im not wrong but is there any more?

I got it a long while back on an int SL (a long ways back, I havent used intermediate sticks in about 4 years) when my Dad refused to let me just put a tapered blade in, so we spent like 70 bucks on the stick fix which made it heavy and poor performing, when a new blade would've been great.

Although the blades are really solid if you wanted to hear something positive...

Used SRS on an XN10. It only felt slighty heavier. The balance was fine but the could be due to the fact that I added a longer extension to compensate for losing some of the shaft in the repair process. Durability was good, the stick lasted longer with SRS than it did in its original form. Overall I was happy with it, for $25 it was a good deal.

At the store i worked at we did the SRS method, and out of about 50 sticks we did we had no complaints, and had people come back to get it done on other sticks/shafts they had broke.

I've used Stick fix and SRS to repair a few XX and XXX sticks. For the shaft repair, I initially thought, the balance was not as good as before. The section that was repaired weighted down the stick. The whole shaft repair was cheap, but if you got the cash, buying a new stick or converting it into a shaft is probably a better option. As for the blade repair, even though it was more expensive, I highly recommend it. The balance and weight of the stick was not altered, and the blade was practically brand new again.

The only sticks i've ever broken were three Vapor XXX's. Sounds good for $25. I was thinking about an XN10 instead. What do you guys think. Repair the XXX or get an XN10? ;)

I've only seen the SRS system. There was a couple i saw that fit together flawlessly and held strong. A bad one I saw it must have notbeen pieced together correctly cause it rebroke the first time using it.

*if done correctly, seems to hold up very well

can all shops that repair shafts do the blades as well, my lhs i've seen them do shafts, but never a blade, this is a recent addition though so maybe they just haven't had one yet

I'm not a dealer, but I own the Stickfix franchise in Chaska, MN...How bad is the crack? Where exactly on the blade (toe/face/bottom)?

PM me.

Some LHS's may repair shafts but not blades. The blade repair is a little more labor intensive and time consuming.

I believe the SRS blade repair is new this year and we should be getting it around april or may. Definitely sounds a little more labor intensive then the shaft repair.

Can SRS or Stickfix do a shaft/hosel repair down near the fuse point? That's where my SWD RM19 snapped off.

A buddy of mine who works for an aerospace composites company is going to try to put it back together for me, but I have a feeling it's going to pretty much ruin the weight, balance, and kick of the stick. But since it's free I thought I'd give it a shot. If it doesn't work, then I'd consider one of the aforementioned repair co's, but it sounds like best bet would be to cut it off and put a tapered blade in there.

They can fix a break at the fuse point. Here are my thoughts on SRS:

I have never used a repaired stick. Some of the LHS workers that I trust let me fool around with a synergy elite OPS they repaired midway up the shaft using SRS. The flex and balance felt normal. I'm sure the flex at the repair location was stiffer than original but since this only accounts for a small portion of the shaft, i doubt the overall flex was changed. I also couldn't feel a difference in weight although this wasn't my stick and I wasnt used to it. But it felt the same as the brand new sticks. They also said they'd repaird hundreds of sticks already and noone has complained, nor were they aware of a previously repaired stick that broke at the repaired location.

Next time I break a stick midway down the shaft, I will give srs a try. If the repair location is that high up on the stick, balance and flex should not be affected. I don't think I would use it if the break was at the hosel because I think it might affect the low kickpoint and the balance (the lower the weight is added to the stick, the more affect the extra weight will have).

I can't speak for SRS, but Stickfix repairs any break to the stick. We remove the damaged area and rebuild it with identical materials. Our process also allows the stick to stay the same length.

If you want anymore info, PM me.

Just after some more feedback on this. I'm considering buying a repaired RM19 using stick fix, but am concerned with durability as I take a lot of slapshots. How have repaired stick held up?

I bought a Synergy from Stick Fix and its still going, no further damage other then a few scrapes and such and if you can get it for cheap, you can always try it.

You can contact stickfix directly, if you have a person doing it in your area. I was given a one-piece stick to try out from a stick company that broke after a couple of skates. Considering I got it for free, I decided to try StickFix for $65 CDN. I called the guy(I live in Halifax, Nova Scotia), met him the next day and had the stick back within 24hrs. He also picks them up from local sports stores here, but it would depend on the person.

I had it done in the spring and have been using the stick off and on all summer with no complaints at all. I don't notice any real difference with the stick, and it has held up to slap shots, slashes and all other normal wear and tear associated with hockey.

If you pay $$$ for a stick it is worth it rather than buying a brand new one in my opinion.
