Docter Pepper 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2007 Do people ever call to bitch about poor officiating? I joined my college's club team last week, and at our game last night we had terrible refs. It was the same group from the night before and it was just as bad. The head official was power tripping and it pretty much seemed like he was doing everything except put a goal on the board for the other team. So at the end of the second game, we are up 5-3 with 5 seconds left and two fights break out. Helmets are off, one of their players is bleeding pretty good. Players get ejected and penalties are sorted out. The scorekeepers ran the clock down, but the refs decided to play the last 5 seconds. As soon as the puck is dropped, all 3 of their forwards rush our forwards high. Everyone on the ice is fighting, including the goalies. At one point, 2 of their forwards are on top of our goalie throwing punches on him while the Head official stands their with his pencil writing down numbers. This is complete bullshit by my standards. The fighting last about 10 minutes before it comes to a halt. We do a brief handshake with a few players while the refs do their thing. I skate by him and tell him he is a terrible official and he let this happen. He tells me if i say another word he'll give me a match penalty(which would suspend me for the next game). I shake my head and say "whatever" and he yells "Don't test me." Now, Should i call whoever runs the officials for this league and complain. I don't even care about the terrible calls, and non-calls, all weekend. I'm concerned with dropping the puck with 5 seconds left in 2 goal game after fights have already broken out. All it did was make hockey look bad and risk a lot of injuries. Does that warrant a call to his superiors?

Chadd 916 Report post Posted January 29, 2007 Do you think they should have played the final 5 seconds? They have a good chance of catching crap either way. Personally, I would have run out the clock and not dropped the puck. League rules may prevent that though.
SickLife 2 Report post Posted January 29, 2007 you're going to find refs like that everywhere. & the people who run the league will generally side with them too. it's just the way it goes, try not to let it throw you off your game.
Docter Pepper 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2007 It isn't effecting my game at all. It's just that all game long there were scuffles in front of the net after every whistle. There were 39 penalties in the first game; i don't know how many in the 2nd. It just kept escalating and i was amazed that the final 5 seconds were played. Dougie8 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2007 Ref doesnt seem like he's very experienced... Match for chirping at the ref, does that seem like an attempt to injure? He definetly didn't need to drop the puck in the last five, but like Chadd said if there is league rules then you can't blame him.

Hordie Gowe 17 Report post Posted January 29, 2007 Weak move by the ref threatening the match penality, if he can't take a little flack he should not be an official.
Docter Pepper 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2007 Weak move by the ref threatening the match penality, if he can't take a little flack he should not be an official. He didn't like our team because we were bitching at him in both games. He deserved it though. The officiating was terrible. I took a hit after the whistle from a kids hands to my head into the glass. I gave him the wtf look and he responded by saying, "like you didn't just do that to someone else." I didn't, so i was completely confused. That's just one example that comes to mind, but both games were filled with incredible calls and no calls. Our best player takes to shots to the head in front of the net after a whistle. He doesn't do anything but hold his ground while the other kids slugs him, and they both get 10's. Our player is on the ice in the corner and their player is holding him down. As our guy tries to get up their player shoves him in the back and sends him to the ice again. The puck wasn't there and they are given matching minors. wtf? Hordie Gowe 17 Report post Posted January 29, 2007 The whole situation seems like a power trip by the official, he can dish out stuff to you ("like you didn't just do that to someone else.") but you can't talk to him (even if you were calling him horrible). If you were swearing to him then there may be a problem but there is nothing wrong with being civil and telling an official something. There is a difference between a conversation with an official and berating them. I like to talk with officials and most of them are good people, but as with anything in life you have a few bozos out there.
