Versus gets NHL Television Contract Extension

Recommended Posts

If you guys are serious about cancelling DirectTV to get out of the cancel fee you need to suspend your account and when your contract is up call and cancel.

Tell them you are moving in with your parents for a couple months and you don't need the service but as soon as you are able you will get the service back.

Comcast wants DTV to pay 25% more than the current rate they are paying and put the channel on basic. DTV would then have to charge it's customers more for the basic service. Keep in mind DTV already pays the highest franchise fee for Vs. since they are Comcast's #1 comp.

I believe they will only suspend it for a certain number of months and it just extends your contract.

I just called DirecTV today conduct some other business, and I mentioned how unhappy I was about the Versus situation. They immediately offered $50 off my NHL Center Ice bill, which I think is fair, so I accepted.

And Vs. says that they AREN'T asking for anything, they only want to keep charging DTV the same as they have been, but they want DTV to continue to offer it on a low level package.

Remember, there are 3 sides to every story.

Even if they were not asking for a rate increase, adding them to a lower level package will increase the cost significantly. They get paid based on the number of viewers that have that package.

but it was already on the basic package of channels for DTV, so it's not like they're just now looking at offering it to anyone additionally if the "status quo" deal reportedly on the table is signed

Will someone please explain to Daryl Reaugh that nobody tunes in to hear him thumb through a thesaurus during a game. Whoever bought him his first "word of the day" calendar should be shot.

I can't understand how anyone likes to listen to that guy. It's not just the ridiculous phrases and words he pulls out, but the emphasis he puts on them too. Yeah, I get it Daryl, it was a mastodonic...... teutonic...... herculean save. I'd rather listen to Rick Jeanneret scream goal in my ear for 2 hours.

I realize that Minnesota is a great TV market for hockey fans, but why do they need to subject the rest of the country to the Minnesota wild every 10-14 days?

Yeah this shit is kinda ridiculous.. I've got Center Ice and all that crap so it doesnt really matter to me cause I can watch whoever, but the Wild on versus all the time and three weeks in a row of the Penguins on the Sunday game of the week on NBC is kinda crazy (and I'm an obvious Pens fan). The Wild are soooo boring and there isn't really any superstar wow factor to watch either so I don't see the point.

I guess they get good ratings and thats what its all about.. I mean the Pens vs Flyers/Rangers/Capitals are all pretty good rivalry matchups and they're the Cup Champs and all that but there are other great matchups too.

I just wish they had some more variety but I suppose its all about the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I have no issue with the Pens on NBC. They're a good team with a couple stars, that's exactly the type of team that should be on national TV. Minnesota on the other hand....

Yeah I dont have any issue, being champs and with Sidney and Malkin and they put the big rivalry games on so hopefully it draws in some casual interest and can turn them into hardcore hockey fans :)

Minnesota/Dallas is brutal though..

LA vs SJ is always a great game with star power. They need some NBC/Verses love.

Hard to fit them into a Noon eastern start for NBC or 7:30/8:00 start for VS.

NBC is only at noon? I thought they did afternoon games too, 2 or 3pm Eastern.

While I will say that this tendency of his is pretty ridiculous, I still enjoy his color commentary. He has excitement, energy, and seems to be having a good time. I would much rather listen to him than whoever it is that I normally hear on the versus games.

Also, I have Time Warner Cable and despite being listed on the NHL Network site, they supposedly don't carry it. I've called a few times with no luck; I think we're going to switch Verizon Fios soon, faster internet and NHL Network being the main draws.

I'm indifferent to Pittsburgh and Washington, but living in Dallas I'm glad they get featured often for national games. The Stars only play the Penguins and the Capitals once this season, these national games give me the chance to see some of the biggest players in the league in full games instead of just watching highlights on the internet.

If he would cut out the crap, he would be one of the best color guys in the league. As it is, he's still in the top half.
