Mission Fuel 120 OPS

Recommended Posts

As part of my ongoing quest to have tried every new OPS (ok I am exagerating a bit, but I do have significant stick issues), I recently picked up a couple of pro stock Mission Fuel 120 OPS. Let me start by saying that this is by far the lightest stick I have ever used (lighter than my XN10's) and, if anything, it might even be too blade light. I've only used it twice, but so far feel is very good as is shooting.

One thing I noticed just by looking at the stick (yes, I spend too much time actually LOOKING at my sticks) is that the shaft near the fuse point seemed to be wider / thicker than other OPS. So out came the measuring tape to measure the thickness of the shaft for the Fuel vs. other sticks I have. I measured the thickness of the shaft toward the butt end and then again right above the fuse point (or as close to where it would be for sticks that were truly one piece). I found that for the Fuel, there was barely any difference in measurement at the top vs. the bottom of the shaft. If anything, it was significantly less than 1/8 of an inch thinner near the fuse point. For the XXXlite and the One90, however, it was almost a 1/4 inch thinner at the taper and for the Dolomite around 1/8 - 1/4 inch. The TPS Adrenline was about 1/8 inch thinner as well.

So is this a peculiarity of the the way the Fuel is constructed, or is mine just the way it is because it's pro stock (I should mention that all of the sticks I measured are pro stock). Maybe mine are actually standard shaft / fused blades painted like a Fuels?

Any thoughts (other than telling me to stop nitpicking and play the damn game)???

I have a retail Hex-1 and it is pretty much the same. I haven't actually measured it, but just by looking at it and comparing it to my other sticks, it is significantly wider at the fuse point than the others. I was actually wondering if/when I need to cut it, if I can still get a tapered blade in there. It's really that wide. It looks like it would take a standard blade.

Hmmm. I was wondering the same thing about mine about breakage. As another data point, I actually have a tapered M-2 pro shaft and that measures out at more than 1/8 inch thinner at the tapered end...

At quick glance over to my two Pulse's, I didn't seem to notice any difference in width as to anything else I've used. I know they aren't the same sticks but if nothing else it might be something exclusice to the Fuels and not Mission in general.

The one thing I noticed about the two Pulse sticks I have is that the shaft had a bulge on one side from a little above the fuse point to about 1/2 way up the shaft.

Yea, it's not all Mission sticks. Both M-1's I've owned had a noticable taper. But, my Hex-1(and it sounds like the Fuel sticks as well) doesn't seem to have much taper at all.
