nyhockey6 1 Report post Posted February 11, 2007 Our Local Roller Hockey Rink is in desperate need of repair and whatnot. So I've been doing some thinking lately about organizing a Charity Tournament to raise money to make the needed improvements since the NYC Parks Department doesn't give a rats ass and has told us that they won't fix anything.Has anyone on here ever ran such an event that would be willing to give me some advice on how to get things start? I'm going to try to get between 6-10 teams, have local stores sponsor it, etc, etc.Any help would be greatly appreciated
SirJW 207 Report post Posted February 11, 2007 Get in touch w/ the Parks dept first. You need to make sure they'll take the money or let you organize the improvements.

Jim A 4 Report post Posted February 11, 2007 best (read easiest) way to do this is to hold an overnight ironman...everyone pitches in as a ref, check-in, toilet duty etc..$25/person - 4 teams, takes 2 hrs max per division..get a few divisions going..easy couple k...no prizes etif you need to make tons of cash though...a tournament isn't the way to go...too much overhead etc typically needed.... The red A team plays the blue A team, then the B teams play each other, then repeat for 24 hours. They charge a $100 minimum and some guys bring in a lot more. You need to line up refs and usually you can get someone like Coke or Pepsi to donate water or sports drinks, a local grocer to donate oranges and bananas and maybe a donut shop for breakfast for the players. They even had some message therapists on hand to help work out the kinks from constant playing. With inline, you won't get as many people on each team but it would still work. Jim A 4 Report post Posted February 12, 2007 when we did THE BIG GAME in 2003, it was based on $100player and teams bought slots (typical 75-90min slots) at $1000 or $1500/team ..picked up a jersey sponsor and the rink donated the for the publicity around it...silent auction didn't run as well as our previous benefit (1 game) but we were able to donate I think 30k+ to our charities...
