Gaining fat during season ?

Recommended Posts

Hi I´d like to know if anyone knows more about this "problem"???

I heard a lot of well conditioned hockey players (pros included) have sometimes the problem of gaining weight (fat not lean weight) under the season.

Does anybody know why it is possible become fat while staying up to 4 hrs a day on the ice, while taking care of a balanced nutrition?

ive dropped 7 pounds this season....its common. I bust my ass off season though, and once you start working out hard it comes right back.

i mean if you booze hard your bound to gain weight, but other than that, playing 3-6 times a week ull lose weight

Stress. Stress increases cortisol. Cortisol increases belly-fat. Relacore reduces cortisol. You need Relacore!

C'mon...don't you watch TV?

Thanks this could be it

gongshow11:

ThanI've never heard of that. I've heard it's common for NHL players to drop 15 lbs. over the course of a season

Yes and know, I know some players are in trouble because of loosing up to 20 Lbs others are gaining weight

What LkptTiger wrote sounds interesting but

I think it has also to do with one´s metabolism, I heard 5-6 weeks after the start of the season metabolism is slowed down by hockey??? I heard about that fact by swimmers, too who are working their asses up and gaining fat

comparing pictures of nhlers (i.e kovalchuk, crosby) at the beginning of the season and at the end you could think they become fatter, too.

Bertuzzi and Tkachuk also don´t seem to loose weight ????

I have never heard of someone who gains weight during the season, unless it is on a very easy league with little practice. Try lifting weights, the added muscle mass will help raise your metabolism.

When I get off the ice after a game or hard practice I am really hungry and sometimes go home and raid the fridge. As much work as we do on the ice I don't think we burn 2500 calories, which is what I eat after a hard night of skating. There is a thread here on eating after playing, there may be some good ideas in there for you, I know I have been studying that thread! I don't gain weight, but I'm not losing any either and I need to drop about 15 lbs.

Um...I was joking, Rocket.

http://www.carter-reedcompany.com/relacore/ You've never seen the commercials?

As others have stated before, I've never heard of anyone gaining fatty tissue during the season - unless, as biff said, it's a relatively recreational league with only two or three games/practices a week. The boys in the Show aren't playing in that kind of league. Personally, I, and a lot of other guys I've played with, have had issues with keeping weight on during the season, which, of course, can be attributed chiefly to the countless hours spent on the ice every week, which not only burns an incredible amount of calories, but also makes it difficult to weight-train as much or with the same intensity that one can during summer hockey.

I've never heard of this with swimmers, either. My girlfriend swam in high school (butterfly specialist), and never, ever gained an ounce of fat. Since she's graduated and stopped swimming, however, she's gone from a 00 waist to a 2. She's turning into a porker... <_<

Are there numbers behind this? A link to more information, perhaps? My curiosity has been piqued.

If they are gaining weight then their diets are most likely not that "balanced". As Hockeydog mentioned, he overeats after playing. That is the main factor why people gain weight, at least it is for me. When working hard, it is extremely easy to eat too much (and honestly, it can be fun). Food is required for recovery and to provide energy. Eat too little and the body will have no enery and won't recover, which is worse than gaining weight. It is hard to find out what the right amount of food to eat is. After looking at the remnants of lunch on my desk, I may never know.

Does anyone else wonder when the makers of Relacore are going to get sued? There is no hope in crap like that.

I was in a Costco, and they had a bottle of relacore for sale for $10, so I bought it and tried it. It had absolutely no effect!
