Opening an account with a hockey distributer

Recommended Posts

I have a small local business and am interested in opening an account with equipment distributor. Groupe Hockey in Quebec seems like the logical choice but also the only choice... is there another alternative out there or are these folks the only general distributors for small to medium sized businesses in North America?

Also, any positive or negative words about Groupe Hockey would be apreciated. Thanks!

There's also the The Ice Group. They don't seem to have crap though.

And thatnks for this thread. I've been looking on my own for this info.

NESSI

Murray Sandler

Can you elaborate? I'm searching my butt off for NESSI and don't see crap. Are they related to Blademaster?

Murray Sandler is a local Mom & Pop shop?

Damn I hate that, sure enough I post this, wander off and find what I was looking for. NESSI = New England Sports Sales Inc. Murray Sandler doesn't seem to have a web site.

NESSI is the US Distributor for Blademaster, amongst other things.

Murray Sandler is a distributor based in MA. I am sure if you Google it you'll find a phone number.

Yeah, on the onegoal.com website. The NESSI I found a website for only listed custom bags.

I sell odds and ends at what I'd loosely catagorize as a "pro" shop =) Business is good enough for me to really consider upping the ante and becoming a little more legit, so to speak... But cautiously.

I'm thankful for all the suggestions so far. Another question for you folks who may have experiance in these matters: Is it a good idea to open accounts with some smaller vendors who work directly with dealers such as Ballistick, for example, or focus exclusively on one big distributor? I have no basis for this assumption but I'd think these smaller companies would be easier to work with and offer better price points.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Thanks again!

NESSI used to do TPS as well. You pay a little bit over wholesale so you really can't compete with online TPS dealers. Nothing like paying a wholesaler the same thing as you would Giant or Monkey.

So I got an account at Groupe Hockey and while the pricing is around where I figured it'd be, the selection is really dissapointing. I mean, I have no illusions about the high end gear and exclusives and what not but I have to say I was surprised by the fact that they don't even have complete size runs in ANY skates or a decent selection of patterns and flexs in sticks and shafts. It seemed like they had more odds and ends than actual product lines.

Is it just a bad time of year and they are between product shipments or something or is this how it always is? I didn't think it was so hard just to get low end and mediocre product!

The fact that Hockey Giant and Hockey Monkey have better selection than even the distributors is kinda a revelation to me.

You can't really run a business depending on distributors for all of your gear. It helps with some odds and ends but that's about all.

What do the distributors actually do, then? I pictured them being something like distributors with movies or CDs or something - like they just have everything and you pick what you want to sell. Do hockey stores have to deal directly with the manufacturers to get what they want?... And if you can get what you want right from the company, why even have distributors?

Not every shop can get an account with every manufacturer, distributors allow those dealers to get some of that product.
