RBK 5K snake grip for 99 $$

Recommended Posts

My local hockey store has got a lot of their sticks at closeout prices, including the 5K for 99. I know there are not many RBK stick fans on this board, but I really like the feel, balance, and weight of this stick, and I would only be using for beer league Has anyone used one or have any intelligent thoughts regarding this stick. Please no "RBK sucks", just something that would offer some info. Thanks

thats a 2 piece stick

the 5k is a OPS

unfortunately, most "OPS's" are fused 2 piece sticks anyway... i'd go with the 6k and the extra blades, better deal. but if you like the stick, why are you asking us? you like the feel, balance and weight, sounds like the right pick to me.

The 5K is possibly one of the worst one pieces I have ever used. Altough if you think you are going to like it than go for it, but I think you will be much better off with this deal, even with shipping it should not be too much over $100:

i just bought that stick 2 days ago from that site i hear it is a great stick. by the way i have a friend who has a 5k and a XXX lite and he would rather use the XXX than the 5k

P.S the stick costs slightly over 100 with standard shipping

I think I'd go with the mission too. I've used both the RBK and the Mission and the mission is a better stick. RBK sticks feel light, but the blades are horrid and the feel with the puck is just plain bad. The mission is super light and has good feel. If I were you I'd spend an extra $40 and get a warrior dolomite. It's worth it.

my brother loved his RBK 5K... however, it didn't last him the full 30 days. He's about 6 ft, 210 lbs and a heavy shooter (16+ yrs playing). He also plays in a couple beer leagues (ie: stick on stick contact only = savages) He had it shipped out to RBK, and they sent him a really nice pro stock 6K.

So in theory, he spoke highly for the performance of the 5K, but not for the durability.

does anyone have any experience w/ the RBK 6K?

I am getting a junior for my sister. I can't imagine her breaking anything because she is just learning to shoot correctly. She plays in a mom's league.

A buddy of mine just picked up a pro-stock one. He says it's a bit on the heavy side. Pretty weird, as the graphics are R.6K or R6.K or something like that with a period in there.

I'm currently using a RBK 6K shaft with an Easton Synergy II Iginla blade. As I did not like the RBK blade patterns, this has been a surprisingly good combination. I prefer my RBK "special" over the two Warrior's I have.

If there is an Easton blade pattern you like, the RBK 6K shaft works very well with them.

Not sure if you're talking about the green OPS or the shaft/blade combo, but here's my 2 cents:

I've got the 6K tapered shaft/blade combo and the feel/performance/etc. is all pretty good. The blade started going soft rather quickly though, and I generally don't break/wear down sticks too often. I've used it probably 10-15 times and I can easily flex the blade by hand and hear the fibers crackling.

For what they're going for nowadays, it's definitely a good deal, especially since you can easily replace the blade if/when necessary.

bump on an old topic, but i was playing around with a kid's 5k snake grip today at school and the grip just felt really cool, so now i'm looking at the 5k shaft for around 50 bucks. I was just wondering, for those of you have used any of rbk's snake grip products, is it hard on your gloves? It just kinda seems as if it would absolutely tear up palms.

Well if you're talking about the shaft, the sick-kick is a tapered shaft and the 5k is standard. i have both shafts. The 5k was given to me by a team mate who hated the shape of the shaft. It has rounded corners and is pretty narrow. I actually like it. I borrowed it from him when I broke an OPS and a blade on my back-up griplite in the same game.

I actually like it. For a cheap shaft, it it's got(had) decent pop. I really like the snake grip, one of the best grip textures out there IMO.

The only issues are 1) the shaft shape. While I like it, not many guys I know care for narrow, rounded shafts.

2) Durability. After I borrowed the shaft. my teammate gave it to me (for a tapered Koho blade). I used it for a few games because I was really digging it (I actually used it over my griplite). But, after a while it started losing it's pop and eventually got pretty soft, to the point where I snapped it by leaning on it in a game (not shooting, but more like using it as crutch when falling..lol).

But, in the interest of full disclosure, I usually use 95-100 flex and this one was 85, so it may not have been just the shaft.

As far as the sick kick is concerned: Just OK at everything. It did not stand out in any way as good or bad. I bought it because it was a cheap tapered shaft. I can't say anything bad about it, but nothing really stuck out in my mind, either. The grip on the sick-kick is diff. than the snake grip and not as good, IMO.

One warning, both shafts come long and will most likely need to be cut for your average player.

the balance imo is a little off, the blade is a little heavy but i love the pop and feel of it when I shoot i can deffinetely feel the stiffness of the blade. The grip is also very nice sticks on my glove just right without noticing. The new sickick with a different paint job came out and, is suppose to have a softer grip? I bought the modano curve and still adjusting too it.
