RBK 6K Pants

Recommended Posts

I haven't had any such durability issues, and I treat my gear like crap. My 6K's still look brand new.

MEhockey thanks so much for your replies. It was really helpful, I think I'll order some tomorrow...

I have to admit I am sort of concerned about the zippers and their durability and coming undone... I can get a Bauer MPB8 girdle for only $70 as well.

I don't necessarily need a lot of padding, I play in a non-check adult league, and I'm pretty fast and play forward so I rarely come in to a lot of contact with anyone or block shots so I'd like something that is light and really mobile above all else... would the 5K be lighter? does it have less protection?

now I'm sort of torn between the XXX-lite and 6K.

I REALLY SUCKS not having a LHS where I can try this stuff on. If there's one near you don't take it for granted! I'd buy stuff and pay a bit extra from a LHS if only we had one...

Read some more threads on here and I've started to wonder if a medium would be too big. I'm 5'10, about 165 32" but I wouldn't call myself "skinny" I'm more muscular... I don't want something bulky I have some Medium Easton's right now and they're huge.

I looked at these as they were in my price range when I bought new pants this fall. The other candidates were Itech HP6600 and Supra 692. In the end, I chose the Easton Synergy 500's from another LHs because they seemed to be more solidly built than the RBK's and Itech's, and they were less stiff than the CCM's - I know a few people who had issues with the 6K, and didn't feel like dealing with the same. Nothing but love for the Eastons here - similar features, more durability - and they fit bigger and better than the Itechs - I was between XL and XXL in Itech, but Easton XL is perfect.

In case anyone is interested. For about the same money you can pick up a pair of Mission L-5's for about the same money as the RBK 6K's and end up with a decent quality pant as well. Check them out.

I have both XXX lites and Reebok 6k. both are great movement wise, but the XXX has a little less padding. I have 2 puk sized bruises just inside my thigh. Had I been wearing the Reebok 6k's at them time, they would not be there.

How does the way they fit compare? I've heard in RBK you can almost go a size down, but with an XXX lite go a size up. I have a 32 waist, and I'm 5'10" or so I have medium pants now which are too large, I think that'd mean a small in RBK.

Would a medium work for XXX? I heard they're also short too. I wish I had a place locally to see each. I don't need a ton of padding I'd rather have light weight and flexibilty... which would you choose in that case?

I'm 5'8 175 32 inch waist, fit perfectly into my Size M Bauer 8000s. As far as I know they are all cut the same, and no one likes the guy who looks like he borrowed his sister's pants. For all intents and purposes get a medium if you go NBH.

Apparently the XXX-lites fit a lot smaller than traditional pants and so people get them a size bigger.

I know what you mean about tight stuff, we have a guy on our team that has been wearing the "new form fitting" uniform the NHL just debuted for the past year. Everything he owns is one size too small...

I just picked up a pair of 6Ks. I'm about 5'10" waist 34" and the Medium fits me fine in these pants. The tag on the inside recommends SR M for waist size 33" - 36" and for height 5'9" - 5'11".

These haven't seen the ice yet so I can't comment on the durability and performance but they are very customizable. You can adjust the height of the padding in the thigh area and also how tight you want the thigh pads to be wrapped around your leg. Its like a hybrid between a girdle and a regular pant which is nice.

So it can be a looser fitting pant if you want it to be or it can feel tighter if you secure the velcro tighter around the leg opening.

Hope this helps - Ian

The XXX Lites are on the small size, I tried on a large and had to go up to the X-Large, they fit real good though. The 6k's I got in a large and they fit great, best thinkg being you can adjust the height of the thigh pads. Both are great pants, I do think the hip/kidney padding setup on the XXX Lites are very good, as they should be for the price. The 6k is maybe just a little more movement freindly.

I really appreciate everyone's responses! I'm glad I found this site, it's amazing. Living here in Nashville there isn't a LHS around for 200 miles and it's not that often I get to go back home to Canada anymore. The responses of people on here and their insights have already helped me buy a few new pieces of equipment without having to wonder if it'll be any good. Thanks everyone!

Bob, what size waist do u have? and which pants are lighter?

36 inch waist. They seem to be about the same weight wise, i'd say maybe the 6k because the pads are suspended from the waist vise sewn in, so maybe there is less fabric?

thanks man, I think that confirms my initial thoughts that a medium would be the right fit.

Once again I appreciate everyone's responses, I apologize for asking a million specific questions but you've helped so much especially since I can't see them in person before buying.

They fit smaller because thats the way they are designed. They are narrow, tapered pants as opposed to the more traditional boxy cut. My 8000s are the same cut as the XXX lite, and I fit perfectly into a medium in both. Whether or not I actually like the pants is an entirely different matter, as I'll be going back to tacklas this year.

you do realize that you just linked me to my own post right?

you mean the "RBK Pants" thread that's oh, about a week old? And was 2 threads below this new topic addressing the same subject?

No need to be smart, I was just pointing out there's a 6K Pants thread already which amassed about 2 pages worth of responses. It has nothing to do with your response... I was just saying, why not continue a conversation about RBK 6K pants under a thread (which happens to be your topic) cleverly titled "RBK 6K Pants"
