Better Butt-ends?

Recommended Posts

I was going to post this in the grip-shaving thread, but it felt like too much of a jack-job, so I figured I'd do so here. Has anyone seen or tried these ''better butt-end'' shaft plugs - they are angled off to promote more blade contact and wrist action on wristers and snap-shots - looks a bit gimmicky. Any comments?

Although I find the angle by the wrist more comfortable, my understanding is this particular design is not allowed by USA Hockey, since the butt end breaks the plane of the stick.

It's got to make shooting very different. Rather than turning the blade by bending your wrist, you roll your forearm. I prefer straight extensions so that I keep my elbow up, it forces me to rotate at the trunk and generate more power. I think the angle is a compensation for bad shooting mechanics.

oggie grips are similar, and arent bad at all. rubber over plastic for grip. ive got the classic, its kinda cool, it flexes when you shoot. i had to chop off the end, it had a huge mock tape job that was too bog. the ergo grip kinda does the same as this, coming away from the plane at an angle. never tried it though.

Wouldn`t this type of butt-end screw with the lie of the blade as well though? It seems to me it would change the contact of your blade with the ice.

Check out the Shaving a stick handle thread. Joe with Oggie posted some pics this morning showing how he shaved the knob down, then taped over.

I've made my own butt end using a broken composite blade. I chopped off the blade and just kept the hosel. The taper of the hosel feels perfect in my hand. I have used this same butt end in every stick I have owned for the past five years.

The Oggie is very cool, and it can be modified. Add tape or shave the end a little, it is awesome. Another positive is, it is USA Hockey approved. Check out their website: www.oggiegrip.com

Just play old school hockey people, all the new and in the future coming out stuff are destroying our fun of sports don't you think :( It's all nice and expensive but just play because you love the sports

Wow, save the drama for your mama...

New stuff is destroying our fun of sports? If that was the case then all goalies would still use pads stuffed with straw and horse hair, skates would still have tube type runners and everyone would use would sticks they carved themselves.

It is possible to use different equipment without becoming obsessed with it. One just has to examine their motivations for acquiring the new equipment.

Haha, it's called gear whores. Every hobby has them. I can't tell you how much $$$ I have in new equipment for my saltwater aquarium. When a new gadget comes out I HAVE to have it. :)
