Holder alignment

Recommended Posts

Hi

I overlooked it when i bought the skates (3 month ago) but from the beginning my right skate didnt feel right (when skating). After the first week of playing i recognized that the right holder was not straight under the boot. Its not the holder but the sole that isnt straight. (see the pic)

But i thought that i just have to get used to it ..

The problem is, the boot tends to bend inwards so there is always more pressure on the right side of my ankle, and after every sskate i still feel pain after 3 months of use ..

I dont have the money to buy a new pair of 5Ks so there has to be an other way to fix this problem.

Sice some people add heel lifts to theire skates, i thought adding a small "wedge-like" plate could help?! what do you think?

(btw: the front of the sole (and holder) is straight)

just curious... take a look at the right boot from the top.. is the ankle twisted at all, looking different than the left?

Is the pressure on the right side of your foot even distributed? Example: Right side of your heel, and right big toe? Or is there pressure on the right side of your heel, and your right pinky toe?

Thanks for the answers!

the skate looks perfect from the top, and the fit is perfect, too! No other pressure at all!

Imagine a little kid learning to skate, theire skates bend inwards because they dont have enough ankle strength. My right skate is beding that way, too. Its not noticeable when you look at me when i stand or skate because my ankle is holding the skate straight, but the skate wants to bend inwards and puts pressure on my outside ankle.

So would you think adding a small triangle- or wedge-like piece of plastic is possible? (and will solve the problem?)

@OkSt:

i'm from Germany, so Pro-Skate is no option ;)

But how did they re-aligning your holders?

I have some Graf's that I sent to Pro-Skate in Edmonton and they are re-aligning the holders. The prices are very reasonable, here is there site Pro-Skate

I had a similar problem with Grafs and they refused to replave them, the sole was warped...

My guess is that you have a pronation issue and stressed the holders. It's not a bad mount, and they're usually pretty good about that. Shimming would be the way to go - need them on the outside edge to push it back straight.

thanks for the answers!

@ JR:

I dont think its a pronation issue, the skate came like that from the factory, and i never had a problem like that with any skate before.

maybe its hard to see on the picture, but the holder itself is fine, perfectly straight, but the sole isnt!

Just to get this right, by shimming you mean actually putting shims between holder and skate?

Yes, but not exactly what you pictured.

Another fix in this case would be to umount the holder, heat the skate and stand in it to flatten it out.

Should've inspected the skate before you bought it. If it is recent, you would qualify for a replacement.

Thanks for the help!

I will ask my lhs to shimm. Could the heating + standing method destroy the skate? And would i only heat up the heel area with a heat gun?

And yeah, i should have inspected the skates when i bought them .. but i was so happy to find a skate that fits so great .. lesson learnd
