Credit Card Warranty On OPS

Recommended Posts

Has anyone tried to get Visa to replace a broken stick that is outside the mfr's 1 month warranty? I can't see a credit card company replacing a broken replacement stick....but I'm curious if a credit card company would replace a hockey stick within their 6th month window.....no contract here to check for exclusions.

Link is to one of the tamer network54 sites, browsing the other forums could scare you out of putting your kid into hockey.

I haven't used VISA or American Express for stick replacement but.... The simple answer is yes...

At a minimum, Visa cards will 1. double the length of the manufacturers warranty and 2. have a length of time where a damaged product bought for personal use will be fixed or replaced.

I believe the minimum available on Visa is 3 months and American Express is longer. What people don't realize is individual banks pay to increase or alter some of the features on their credit cards; so a Visa card IS different depending on the bank. Check with your bank for your card's features.

BTW.... WOW Zam, thoses forums WOULD be enough reason to keep your kid out of hockey. I've always kind of wondered if I should have started my daughter in boys' hockey... but after scanning one of those forums I think I can safely put that thought to rest.

or how do i notify American express about it?

It looks like Amex doubles the warranty. So for sticks it would be 60 days total warranty. I also read through the terms and conditions and it doesn't look like there are any restrictions that would prevent you from claiming your stick (as long as it is paid for in full with the card).

(Edit for more info):

I did some more reading and Amex has two types of protection. The one that doubles the warranty (Buyer Protection) and one that replaces or repairs items within 90 days from purchase (Purchase Protection). I don't think sticks would be covered under Purchase Protection because it says

[Occurances not covered] ... items damaged due to normal wear and tear, inherent product defect or normal course of play (such as, but not

limited to, golf and tennis balls)
