Recommended Posts

I'm trying to find a dealer near Pittsburgh, PA that actually carries Mission line of Hockey ICE Skates... the 2 listed on the locater don't actually stock ice skates... LHSers, let me know if you have 'em.

Thanks in advance!

Isnt that Chadd dude a hockey shop worker from Pittsburgh? I remember him singing the praises of Mission skates awhile back..Maybe he has them?

Chadd's old store is in Lancaster PA.... about 4.25 hrs by car... JR's shop in MI is about 4.5 hours... so I'm looking for something a bit closer :)

I just work at a PIAS in Greensburg. We do about 75 % of hockey stuff tho, so thats all I do

Ok, that's where I was initially going to go get my skates but they didn't have them in my size but whenever I talked to anyone on the phone very polite.

Were like the only place that has shockey stuff around here unless you go to Pittsburgh, so we sell our stuff fast.

The only place I found that has about everything is KoSports and that's about a 45 minute drive for me. Greensburg I think is about the same. I'll have to stop in sometime.

Traded emails with Curt at KO, he said he'd be more than happy to order them for me... I really want to try on a pair before I drop some large $$ on them... I'm thinking of trolling ebay and closeout sales on S500 or last year's AG 110 and then going to PIAS and get them baked... Just at a loss that they're not carried around here...

I took my fuels to get them baked at Ko's and the main owner looks and them and says:

"Why would you get these?"

Best skates i've had. My stride with my 95AGs feels so effortless compared to my S300s.

being from pittsburgh, mission ice skates seem to be rather unpopular in this area. more importantly that means they dont sell well at local hockey stores, and then in turn pick up a negative reputation from store owners etc... whether or not they sell is much more important to an owner that the actual quality... as swiss will attest, even his stores owner doesn't care for them much, and they're apparently the only store with them in stock... pp but i would probably ask you the same thing lol...

"Why would you get these?"

Implied message "why wouldn't you buy something from me that I have in stock?"

Sales 101... sell what's in inventory... I get it... So he'll end up baking a pair I buy somewhere else... instead of taking my disposable income...

Mission is what I like. He doesn't care for the skates but that's not my problem. It cost me about $20 to get the skates baked there. Almost nowhere else has a baking machine near me except past the city so I just did it there.

If you have employees that know product well or believe in a product, you can sell anything. Most shops employ kids that are a big part of the "peer pressure" groups that say if you're not using brand X, then your stuff sucks. That's not how you break in a new product or brand.

When we opened our shop, Mission had zero presence in our area and no market share. Because I liked, and knew, the product, I was able to sell a lot of skates to people. Those people then started coming back the next year for new skates and asking for Mission. After the Fuel debacle last year, they lost a lot of people who had become faithful customers.

We sell Mission Ice skates, and we sell a pretty decent amount. I have no problem with Mission Ice Skates, and have skated there Inlines for years. We just did not have in stock what he was looking for. I would def. agree with you on the "peer pressure" inlfluence though, that in kids come in just to get something because someone told them too. I try to correct them, but some of those kids are tough to crack haha
