Graf G9 vs 709

Recommended Posts

My son had the G9's but not the 709's.I think the difference is in the materials (Teclite exterior and a different interior also (can't remember the name, but very soft.)Basically both are for a a thick, wideish foot that requires a deep fitting skate. The pros on the site can probably add to this.

the 709's (any 7xx Graf skate) are made with more traditional materials. the G9 is made with newer age materials and feature a composite outsole. the G series skates are a bit lighter than the 7 series.

Both are Pro level skates.

The 709 has been out for some time now. Not sure what their new line is, or if there will even be one.

My knowledge of the 2 lines is that the 709 is older, heavier, but built for durability. Where the G-line is to compete with the newer lighter lines.

I had a pair of 709's and loved them, once they died I got a pair of bauer 8090's but I think I'm going back to graf's. Are the G9's stiffer? Are they less durable than the 709's? I'd hate to shell out $500+ for skates that will be trash in a year.

as mentioned above, they are basically the same skate ie they fit the same way, but are made out of different materials, the g series was created to be competitive with other brands more high tech skates, more carbon etc makes for a stiffer and lighter experience. graph basses their top line equipment on fit. their entire 7 series is essentially the same skate built with different fits and flexes. the g series is based on the 7 series, but made to be a bit stiffer and lighter

Saw the new Graf catalogue at my LHS, looks like the Ultra series will be G3, G5 (already out), and the G70 will be based on the G9

Ultra G are the new ones and appear to be a pretty decent skate with a number of improvements over the G series.

i have a novel idea, maybe you guys could tell me what you think and maybe Graf should think about this. maybe come right out and tell their retailers or post on line that a 705, G5, and Ultra G5 all fit the same. also it would be nice if they give a straight answer on if the 704 was replaced by the 735 or if the 704 and 703 fit the exact same. also if the Ultra G70 fits the same as a 709/G9, why not just name it the Ultra G90? i mean calling it the Ultra G70 makes me think 707, come to think of it has a G7 been offeren in north america yet, or is it still 707 TLI europe only? thanks
