On-ice translators?

I helped out my work with a team that came from Korea last summer with translating and fitting them with head-to-toe gear and the coach asked me for my number so that he could ask for my help whenever he comes back.

Fast-forward to today I get a call from someone who said he recieved the number from him. He's telling me that he's bringing his team to get fitted for head-to-toe and also for on-ice training from cocahes in Canada.

His concern is that the kids won't be able to understand what the coach is saying so he's asked me to work for him 5 days a week, 4PM-5:30PM for I don't know how much yet as a translator to help the kids understand what to do and what the coach is saying. I'm not exactly fluent in Korean but I'd take the gamble that I could get by.

My question is, what's the average wage for something like this?

You can spin this job as a vital part of the kid's education so you can basically ask for what you want. Since it is a short stint, ask for 20 dollars an hour and go down from that price. I would expect about 15-20 dollars if you can speak fluently in hockey jargon and depending on what other commitments you have.

yeah, I would ask for 20 bucks because it's barely for an hour and a half. Takes time to get there and go and etc.

id ask for $250-300ish, like a one time deal, and if its an entire team they should have the money

well they must not need me THAT badly since the guy hasn't called back yet

Try not to price yourself out the first time he offers you the job. Better to use this as a stepping stone and cement yourself as "the translator" and make a name for yourself then ask for an increase.
