Road Hockey Chassis

Recommended Posts

Hey what kind of chassis do you guys recommend for road hockey?

What would be going overboard and what is better to serve the purpose?

Also do wheels matter as well? (as in difference with road/rink)

Thanks.

Wheels will make a difference if the surfaces are different. Generally, a wheel used on sport court, etc, is softer than ones used on outdoors surfaces. (IE: asphalt, tennis court blacktop, etc.) Although I never skated on it, I hear smooth or painted concrete surfaces tend to go lighter on wheels slightly harder than what may be used for sport court. Here's a break down, others can modify as they see fit: (remeber this is also dependent on your weight as well)

Sport court - 74 - 76 A

smooth/painted concrete/wood - 76 - 80A

Asphalt/blacktop - 80+ (I think the higher the better)

As for chassis, I wouldn't be too concerned about what to use, I'd be more concerned that it is similar to other skates I use. (IE: hi/lo, vangaurd, beemer, etc.)

Important to get a chassis thay either uses 4wheels in the same size, or 2 pairs in the same size.

e.g. Hi-Lo (80-80-72-72) Hummer (80-80-80-80) Vanguard (80-80-76-76) Sprungs (76-76-76-76) or flat frames (76-76-76-76).

Do not use: CCM/Rbk Tri-Di (80-76-76-72) or Labeda Sensor (80-80-72-76).

You can't swap the wheels on those 2 frames because of the use of 3 different wheel sizes, thus making your skate rocker as the 1st and 4th wheel get worn down.

Thanks for the info guys.

As for the 80+ wheels, is that referring to the size of it?

Actually, I was referring to the hardness. Sorry I didn't clarify.

I just bought some new Mission skates the other day. I think im in the same situation as you. I was needing skates for playing on tennis courts or sport courts(asphalt, not smooth concrete). They came with the Hi-Lo chassis, and with 83+ wheels which i'm pretty sure are just right for what i'm using them for.
