nike zoom air skates

Recommended Posts

hey all, sorry to bump an old thread, but i figured I would post here instead of starting a new thread.

I've been looking a buying a pair of white Nike Zoom Air skates from a local classified ad. But I was wondering what the stiffness is like on these? the pair I'm looking at are obviously used, so it may be hard to compare. But are there any comparisons to stiffness? i.e. the nike zoom air skates are about as stiff as Bauer x40 skates. Also shinedown if you still have any of those pairs left in a size 8 let me know :p

I have about 12 pairs of the Zooms - roller and ice in all the various incarnations they produced and all in mint condition and some I've converted to roller.

With regards to stiffness, it depends on which model you are looking at. If it's the Accel Elite, they are pretty stiff, but nowhere near what present day skates offer.

They are also a rather heavy boot. They're quite comfy but again, nothing like a present day boot will offer you. Keep in mind these were made in the 90's.

If you can post a picture of them or let me know the model you are looking at, I can give you a more accurate idea of the stiffness.

Another thing to be aware of is these skates soak up ice water like a sponge, resulting in an already heavy skate feeling like concrete blocks on your foot.

You're probably wondering why I have so many pairs given I've just slated them above...I was obsessed with them as a kid. Some folk collect stamps, I wanted all the Zooms lol.

When it comes to competitive play...these hardly get used and the One95's are the way forward.

Up to you man, depends what they want for them price wise. They're not that rare, you can ALWAYS find a pair if you check ebay daily.

So the question you need to ask yourself is - what are they being used for?

If it's for your main pair of skates for hockey, get something more current as they'll offer more performance, more protection and will last you better.

I do love my Zooms though :)

awesome thanks man. I'm not sure if theyre the accel elites or just the normal air accels. heres a picture of the ones I'm looking at, theyre kinda dirty too, so if you have tips of how to brighten the whites on the skates up that would be awesome.

These skates wont be my main skates. my main skates are MLX's, but like you, I absolutely LOVE these skates ever since Fedorov endorsed them.
