Blackberry 8703e or MotorolaQ

Recommended Posts

OK you gadget geeks, it's time for me to upgrade my Verizon phone and these are the 2 i'm looking at. I'd really rather get the Treo 700w but it's too expensive for my tastes. What experiences do you have with these smartphones? Is one a definate standout over the other? Please help me decide, because I hate deciding this stuff on my own.......

I've had the Q since September and I love it. Haven't had any problems with it at all. The only thing that I do not like is the absence of a Instant Messaging program. I was told that if I want a mobile version of AIM it would cost like $25 to download.

Hmmmm.........now i'm also looking at the Blackberry 7130e. It's smaller in size but doesn't have the qwerty keyboard.

damn, Verizon dosen't have the Blackberry 8800. (At least not in my area) That phone is hot... It's like the Pearl, only full sized.

I was just looking at the 8800 on Blackberry's website. Very hot indeed! Probably mucho bucks if Verizon carried it. It has multimedia capabilities, which is what the 8703 is lacking.

My Q has MSN instant messenger. Is that not an Instant Messaging program?

Anyways, Its a great phone. If you have any general questions just ask me.

I have two 2 gb memory cards and watch movies all the time on my phone, I also have about 20 original nintendo games on it (blades of steel, contra, Tecmo super bowl, etc.) probably the best part of my phone haha :P

Yeah but I don't have an MSN account, I'd rather use AIM. How do you have the Nintendo games on your phone. I only have that Bubble breaker game and it's getting boring after playing it about 4000 times lol

My sister has the Q and likes it a lot, but had a lot of issues with the original battery draining quickly. She got an extended life battery on eBay and it's been better, but adds bulk to the phone.

As far as the 7130e, I honestly don't see the point in getting a smartphone without the full qwerty keyboard. Hell, there's a Samsung phone from Verizon that's the same size as the Razr, but with a full Qwerty keyboard for texting. The number one reason I'd opt for a smartphone in the first place would be for the email capabilities, and god knows I hate using alphanumerics for texting, let alone typing out full emails.

I think Verizon will soon get the Blackberry 8800 as well as the new Treo phones (680 and 750) because Cingular already has them. Cingular is a GSM network, so the phone guts will have to be changed in order for Verizon to get them, usually takes a while after they first come out. I am going to hold out until one of those 3 phones comes out.

My wife has the Q. Battery life sucks, the OS is a little slow so if I had to do it all over again, I would get a blackberry. However, if you want multimedia on there, the 8703 is not good for that.

Never get Cingular data packages, their data rate is like dial-up compared to Verizon.

Any idea when these will come out? I'm due for an upgrade at the end of June and I'm looking at going with either a Blackberry or Treo, but if a new one is coming out I'll wait.

...my apologies for momentarily jacking the thread...

http://www.samsung.com/Products/MobilePhon..._M620ZKASPR.asp Any chance I could set this up on my Cingular account? I'm not sure how Samsung phones work or what the Sprint set-up is like, but I was hoping I might be able to buy this phone (without a contract) and simply transfer the Cingular SmartChip from my SLVR over to the new one.

No, you cannot. At the moment that phone is only out using the CDMA networking. You have Cingular, which is GSM. CDMA phones have no "chips" and thereby you cannot take your Cingular SmartChip and stick it in.

Verizon is releasing the BlackBerry 8830 which is similar to the 8800 of Cingular. This should be an amazing phone. It comes out online on the 14th of May and in stores on the 28th.

I've always had a question that really has never been clearly answered; when your with Verizon, if your contract isn't up and say you want to upgrade, do they charge you the $175 termination fee just so you can sign a new contract to get the phone at that price or what happens and what can you do because I want the new BlackBerry but I think my family has like a year still left on our latest contract so I was just wondering.

Thanks in advance.

Another quick question, hate to bring this back up and hate to kind of thread jack but I was messing around with the Audiovox XV6700 the other day and really liked it. It surprised me with all the functions and the full slide out keyboard is great. I was just wondering if anyone on here has had it for awhile and if they have liked it and how good overall it has been? Thanks in advance as I'm looking into getting one.

I was told by Verizon I couldn't upgrade my phone unless I was within 2 months of the end of my contract. I didn't ask if I could terminate it for a fee however and then upgrade. I think it's the stupidest policy in the world however, making people WAIT to PAY MONEY for a new phone!

I wanted to upgrade to a phone with like the Q or a blackberry so that would also mean that I'd be paying more for a data package each month. I just don't understand a policy like that which prevents people from doing what they want, especially if they're going to be buying a new phone/upgrading their services.

I was told, you can upgrade phone your within your current plan one time. Anything beyond that requires waiting. Or, buying an unlocked phone on ebay, which is probably the better route to take.

I'm set for an upgrade from Verizon on Sunday. I'm really considering getting a Treo 700wx. In looking into it I've learned that the Windows operating system is much better than Palms. Any truth to that? Truth be told there is no reason for me to get a smartphone, I'm just a phone whore and this is the next step for me to take. Anyone know anything about the new Blackberry? From looking on Verizon's website you can't send texts with it, which would rule it out for me. I also like this guy, too. http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/store/c...tedPhoneId=2200

Basically, I'm lost.

Kosy, my gf got me the XV6700 for a graduation present as I go through phones like no other. Let me tell you, the phone is sick. The full slide out keyboard is amazing for texting and any other little notes, memos, and all that you might need to take. The mobile windows OS is pretty good, no cell phone or program running on it is going to be perfect but I've also had a Treo 600 and 650 (havent tried the 700) and I think the windows is head and shoulders above the Palm OS. To be honest, I don't think the whole texting thing with the blackberry is true, a couple of my friends got them when they came out and they text like no other so I don't think they would have gotten them if they couldnt. (Again, no first hand experience or knowledge, just going on the latter) But as far as the XV6700 goes, you can't go wrong with it, the features are awesome and personally I think its one of the best looking phones made, and most functional and solid.

Hope this helps somewhat.
