earbud headphones

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for some moderately priced ear bud headphones and so far from the ones I've seen I'm deciding between the Shure E2C's and Bose ear buds. I don't exactly know a lot about headphones so some help would be great.

Shure is a company widely used in the recording industry and makes perhaps the best microphone ever created, the SM-57 which even sees use on the presidents podium.

what's your price range? If you're looking at the Shure in-ear headphones, you should take a look at the Etymotic ER-6s. I have them, and if you have an MP3 player, you should rip some CDs in iTunes w/Apple lossless compression, you can definitely tell a difference in the quality.

If you're going to go down the in-ear road, you should know that they generally aren't very good for walking around, because each footstep makes a noise in your ear. The Etymotics are great for air travel, and being on a long car ride if you don't want to be disturbed. I've had them on at home and missed phone calls, because when you're playing music through them, you can't hear anything but the music.

my price range is about 80-130 Cdn and I'd preferably like to get in ear headphones so I can carry them around easier.

alright, are you going for really good noise isolation, or more just for casual wear? Because noise isolation headphones can make walking while wearing them awkward, I don't like to have mine in while i walk, i use some cheap sony earbuds for that...

The etymotics retail a bit above what your price range is, but the design isn't new, so you can probably find them discounted at some places. Also, try epinions.com and see if they have reviews for different headphones. Good luck finding the right pair!

Probably most of what you're looking for right here:

http://www.headphone.com/products/headphones/in-ear-monitor/

They don't carry the Etys, but like GoHawks said, you should probably be able to find a pair somewhere--possibly used. If you're going to go that route, try and look for the 4P model. Ridiculously flat frequency response (for a ridiculously high price to boot).

I have the Sennheiser CX300 and really like them.

Previously purchased the Shure i4c which are the top of the line for Treo Phones, but I find the Sennheiser sound better and are cheaper ($80 vs $200)

Quick question...wouldn't the in-ear headphones ruin your hearing pretty quickly? I do want a pair but don't know the significance of the in-ear headphones to the outta ear eadphones.

Actually you generally need less volume if they're in your ear. The more outside sound is prevented from getting into your ear, the lower the volume you need to hear the music more clearly. If you run it at max volume all the time you're probably still going to do some damage.

These are the ones I want.....

Bang & Olufsen

Probably the sexiest headphones ever.

Do not, I repeat, DO NOT purchase Bang & Olufsen A8s. The sound quality is average at best (a cheap pair of Sennheisers would beat them easily) and they cost a ton. I bought them because they looked great and sold them after I realized how poor they sounded.

If you just want cool looking 'phones then by all means go for them.
