willy0314 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2007 when you say "box jumps with weight" what exactly do you mean? If you mean something like deadfall plyos, where your on a box about waist high and you step off....you dont need any extra weight. how much time do you have? If you have until next winter, you could spend a good 6 weeks hitting the weight room hard before you back off and go more on the sprints. Also there are two things that everyone forgets when the want to get faster, you need to work your abs....just as much as your legs. And form contributes to how fast a player is much more then the muscles in your legs. A good powerskating clinic or some individual lessons will make you alot faster then a summer in the gym will. Everyone thinks they have good form, until the skate with someone who does and they just burn them all over the ice. You don't need to move your feet at 100mph to be a fast hockey player, but you need to have good form. period.
texanhockey 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2007 youll get more endurance no doubt. as long as your not eating to terribly. i dont think youll get faster on ice without actually practicing your skating. like sprints and laps on ice
habookus 1 Report post Posted May 22, 2007 Like Josh said, if you consistently stick to it for a couple months, as well as mixing it up with weight training you should notice an improvement to your game for sure.

Ever.actually best reply here. he can do that but depending on sets, repititions, reps, etc... he may or may not gain speed. Plus if he does that 2x a week all summer he wontget faster as you need to change up exercises every 3-4 weeks.Plus sprints wont make you faster, plyos and ladder work do. Sprints give you some power but not explosion, they do help with cardio obviously
Rocket 0 Report post Posted May 24, 2007 [Plus sprints wont make you faster, plyos and ladder work do. Sprints give you some power but not explosion, they do help with cardio obviouslyThat´s not true. You are getting faster by sprinting for sure. But it has notthe same effect plyos or ladders have. Plyos and ladders do nothing else than simulating sprint / running patterns Olympic lifting simulates jumping and boundig patterns.Every plyometric exercise is making you faster. Lots of people forget that the BRAIN plays a major role when it comes to speed develpment. You have to train your brain to move your feet fast i.e (nothing else do ladders or sprints)The best way to become faster is COMPLEX Training. You have to be well conditioned before you start this kind of trainingYou squat i.e maximal weight for 5 Reps after the last rep you start as fast you can doing 6 squat jumps (the plyo version)Your leg muscle gains strength and your brain is teached to move fastWorld Class sprinters training like that.... willy0314 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2007 I have never read anything that included training for strength and power at the same time....Further more, I have never heard of including plyos with a leg specific workout routine due to the stress they put on your CNS.
