Shuffling

Recommended Posts

Recently started ice (from roller), and I have no idea how to do a shuffle. I kind of taught myself along the way, but I'm really bad at it. What is the proper way to do a shuffle?

Also, what is the point of a shuffle? T-pushing is good enough for me (being a roller goalie), and I think is much faster. All I can see shuffling being good for is moving small distances where it is inconventional to t-push.

The point of shuffling is exactly what it seems to be: a way to cover short distances without changing the aspect of your feet, pads or body.

As to how to do it, it's largely a question of shifting your weight. You're never going to be able to 'glide' sidways on a blade the way you do going forwards, so what you're trying to do is distribute reduced weght along the length of your lead foot's blade so it doesn't catch too much ice.

For what it's worth, I was drilled from seven to seventeen in only using shuffling to move laterally - no T-pushes, nothing. Even so, as I'm re-learning the game and the position, I'm finding that shuffling is less and less important to my movements around the net, though it's still more a part of my game than most of the new-style guys.

i somewhat agree with him on this one, but it also depends the type of goalie you are, goalies like me who play somewhat like broduer and miller use it alot but goalies like fluery and giguere never use it. So i can see someone getting by without using it at all but it is a helpful tool to have speically goin post to post

so when did Miller turn into a hybrid half-butterfly goalie? Miller and Brodeur don't play anything alike, it's like compairing Luongo to Vanbiesbrouck.

Think it's cause they wear the same style pad :)

It's because they're both pissing off the CCM/RBK/THC/Acronym Conglomerate by using the same ancient, lovely designs, forcing the company to put new skins on old goats. ;)

what i mean by that is they don't just drop straight to their knees every shot like half the goalies today, they still use the things like reflexes, and half-pad saves.
