What shin guards should I look into?

Recommended Posts

I currently have Nike V11 shins and they are starting to fall apart. I want a shin guard that is just as protective if not more than the V11's and also noticably wider and a bit bulkier. Any suggestions?

you can't go wrong with Jofa/RBK.. The new 9K/last years 8K is simply the most protecting shinpad ever

Bauer 4000's seem to fit the description you have left IMO. I have a pair and it's hella fun to block shots in those things, you barely feel it. And, they're wide enough to almost pass as mini goalie pads. Yay!

I would go with Joja/RBKs. I tried other shinguards over the years, Easton, Bauer, etc. but the RBKs I have now(only 4ks) are the best shinguards I have every had.

Easton 900's, or the new stealths. The 900's are last years and you could maybe get them cheap. They are really compfy. But the RBK's are supposed to be good. I think RBK bought jofa and jofa used to have pretty bulky and well fitted shin guards.

For wider pads you have to look at the RBK 8 or 9K's. The Bauer 8000's are also fairly wide (as previously mentioned) or the 6000's aren't a bad bet. Don't go to Easton's Synergy S-9's because while they are a comfortable and protective shin pad, they are a slimmer pad like the Nike V-11's. I know because I use them for pickup hockey. I wear the 8K's for more serious stuff. Frankly, I'm still up in the air about which fit I prefer the wider fit or the slimmer fit but for all around protection you won't beat RBK/Jofa shins.
