Goalie Catseye Cage for Player's Helmet

Recommended Posts

Anyone found a goalies catseye cage that will easily fit a player's helmet, i.e. Jofa 690 ? Looking for better visibility w/o sacrificing protection. I tried the FX-50 but considered it way too heavy. Ideas ?

I believe Rebellion makes the old school college masks, no need to use a goalie cat eye on a players helmet. The ones we sell are chrome so not sure if they come in any other color but they have a wide open view. Kind of a 3/4 mask just like the ones players use to use tape on back in the day

Thats the exact one i was talking about, The one we carry is made by Rebellion hockey. Havent done business with them in a few years but when we did we stocked up on these masks. We sell a lot to the older adult who is looking for that false sense of protection or just wants to look like they did back in high school or college.

Older adult ... yes ... looking for a false sense of protection or how I looked in high school ... no. Just can't get used to all of those bars in front of my eyes and am looking for alternatives. For safety's sake, maybe I should stick with the FX-50 or some other visor-cage combo. Can't believe there's not a cage out there that opens up a line of vision but still protects the rest of the head.

Any other suggestions appreciated - most of the guys on my team play with just visors or nothing at all. Young and crazy, all of them !!

well other than a visor cage combo that'd be impossible. just stick with the fx-50, it's safe and as clear as your vision can get other than wearing nothing at all.

actually, i used a goalie cage when I first started playing, as I was also the team's backup goalie. Didnt have any problems for inline, and I did do a few saves intentionally with the cage.

However, the cateyes were a lot heavier than the normal cage. Maybe thats why my neck and spine are all crooked! haha...

Not saying this is the way to go, but maybe you can saw out a few of the bars on your cage to free up vision. Course, this compromises the overall safety, but it is an option.

Cooper used to make a fisheye cage for goalies, and a much lighter one they marketed for broomball. It was extremely popular when I played lacrosse. It's still on my spare helmet, but I've just gotten so used to the lightness of a halfshield I really don't use it much anymore.

I've done that and it worked pretty well. I just removed the bars that went in front of my eyes (one on each side).

The Cooper/Bauer HM-30 The osgood style cage. Itech makes a similar style, but the bauer/cooper is much better imo

This may be what you seek:

Word of advice: I rocked this for a few games, but went back to a legit cage because while this may offer a bit more protection than nothing at all, you can still get messed up pretty good via puck, stick, or fist.

prenny207's buddy invented that cage. prenny reps it for him.

If it won't pass certification, there isn't enough of a market to justify the R&D.

The HM30 is heavy, the HM 40 is the one I have. Here is a picture of one on Ebay. Not really meant for goalies, marketed as a broomball mask. Pretty light, but i have seen them bent/caved in by a follow through with a wooden lacrosse stick before. Provides good visibility.

Given that the HM-30 is heavy, anyone know if the Sportmask Mage SM-90 will fit a player's helmet ?
