Which Junior league to play in

Recommended Posts

So I have offers to play in both the EJHL and the NAHL for next season, those who are familiar with the leagues which one would you play in? Cost is free for NAHL im talking strictly exposure and chances at D1.

I dont want to say because I was offered before the main camp...but what league do you all think?

If you're tendered, it doesn't have to be a secret.

im not tendered by the NAHL team, but I was offered a spot by the coach at the first camp, the EJHL and NAHL teams are both middle of the pack but the EJ team is stacked for next year. Im worried about location in the NAHL.

I've met and talked to a few guys that have played in the NAHL and that have tried out and basically its an advancement stage league. If you stand out, then you COULD get contacted and offered schollys from D1 but most guys play a year or 2 at most in the NAHL and then they are picked up to play in the USHL for a year then go on to D1. Again no matter what league you play, you're going to have to bust ass and be solid to get a shot at D1.

Also, it depends on how old you are and where you are looking to go to college. The EJ is a growing league because it is in the backyard of alot of D1 and D3 colleges. Although it was a definite strain financially, I thought the EJ did a great job in promotion and worked well for me. The EJ is more of a finesse/skilled league as well.

The NA is another good league and it is a great benefit that it is free. However, it seems to be going backwards in the past couple of years talentwise. It has become the roughest Junior league in America so you have to see which league better fits your game. Also if you are younger, the NA would benefit you to get drafted into the USHL.

Anyway you cut it, both leagues are good and move players on, I just feel the EJ has a better connection to the East Coast schools and its biased because I am from the East and it worked well for me. If you want any more opinions just shoot me a private message or whatever, good luck.

Hock the situation REALLY depends on which team (for NA purposses.) Although not with the EJ, I do have some expierience and have many many friends who have played in the leage. If you would rather not share on here, PM me with the NA team and I would be willing to give you any insight I can offer.

my prep school plays a lot of ej teams so we get to know the guys and alot of them move on to play college hockey somewhere, no matter d-1 or d-3 they will move you on, the NA on the other hand is notorious for not moving kids on i have a few buddies who played there and the lack of exposure was huge. i would actually ask you first what colleges you want to play for. like d-1 and d-3
