Trouble with wheels/bearing

Recommended Posts

When I am rotating wheels/changing bearings/ etc. what I do is I put the wheel in place and slide the longer screw in that holds it in place then I spin it. As it is spinning I put the smaller screw in and start screwing it in with skate tool and as I tighten it the wheel eventually stops dead.

If i take the bearings out of one wheel and put them in another and just keep rotating bearings randomly eventually all the wheels will spin freely when the screws are tightened.

But does anybody else have this problem of wheels losing their spin when you simply tighten their screws?

What should I do?!?!

What kind of skates, chassis, wheels, bearing, and spacers do you have?

It kinda sounds like you may just be cranking them down too much and causing too much friction... But it could also be a problem with your wheels, chassis, etc.

I have the bauer accel lites with the tuuk oneup chasis and the wheels are just labeda grippers. I know It doesnt have to do with cranking them too tight because they immediately begin to lose spinnability as soon as the tightness goes beyond finger tight.

Yea, make sure you have spacers in there. Also make sure the wheels aren't rubbing, although it doesn't sound like they are if they spin fine until you get them past finger tightness.

spacers? what do you mean spacers? Are those those little black rings on the outside of each bearing? The wheel definitely would not fit into the chasis with those things on I don't believe.

I don't know then man. Make sure you aren't cranking them down and make sure you have some loctite on the axles. That way you could leave them loose so that they spin, but your axles won't come loose. That is assuming that the wheels aren't wiggling around like crazy.

Try to put a different set of wheels on and spin em', that why you can determin if it's possibly the wheels fault.

Some batches of Labeda wheels (grippers and asphalt) I've used, have been just a touch wider than other wheels.

The bearing might not be fully seated in the wheel hub. One thing that might help out is to tighten the bolt down and then torque the wheel side to side (pushing parallel to the axle).

I had the same problem. Mine was beause the axle itself wasnt big enough or wide enough try taking the whole axle out and checking how well it fits. Also, does anyone know how to fix this because i havent figured out a way without buying new axles or bearings. maybe i set them up wrong? plz help

your chasis could be twisted or deformed

i have the same thing on the left skate of my 5500 but it works fine when i flip the wheel

My guess too would be something with the Chassis. Try putting one of the other wheels/axles there that spin fine in another spot and see what happens. If any part of the chassis is touching the wheel or the sidewall of the bearing, then it will slow down the spin.

I have that problem with a pair of Bauer 5000s I converted with a stupid Mission generator chassis on them. It's not as bad as yours though, but I would be willing to bet it's a slightly bend chassis. If I really crank them down the wheels won't spin at all.

Basically your only option is to try and either bend the chassis back a little bit.
