Synergy ST or Stealth

Recommended Posts

I went to my LHS today and I they are selling some Easton Pro stock's...for right-handers, I found blue Easton CNT Stealth (Sundin, Ondrus) and the Green Synergy ST for Forsberg. I am currently using a NBH One90 with a Wellwood curve (pro-stock). I am a forward who mainly only shoot wrist shots and loves to deke. Which stick should I get?

One more thing to consider: I am using a flex 77 One90...the Stealths I believe are flex 85 and the Synergy ST's are flex 110 (quite high). Would a higher flex affect my wrist shot?

Thank you.

110 is quite a jump- eespecially if you are going to cut it. Unless you are able to get some wicket weight transfer, your wristers will suck balls with a 110.

Is 110 at the higher end of the spectrum? So it's mainly for more advanced player? I am roughly 5"11, 190 pound yet I must admit that I must re-learn my shooting skills (took a 5 year break from hockey).

It's at the higher end of the spectrum if by spectrum you mean flex numbers. Not as much a more advanced player as much as someone who weighs 220+lbs or is used to flexing an iron bar.

What's the range of flex numbers for a senior stick?

So who can benefit from a higher flex? A heavier player? Or just a stronger player who can bend the stick more?

Thanks.

70, 85, 100, 110 are the flexes I have seen for a retail senior stick.

And yeah, a stronger/heavier player will benifit using a stiffer flex because the softer ones will flex too much, therefore breaking.

So I should definitely not get the 110 flex ST...I guess I am left with the Stealth. I also looked at a few XXX-lite...how is the Hemsky curve? I saw a kovalchuk...it looks extremely weird to say the least.

I want to say the wellwoods are 112 flex. I've seen some of them on ebay. under the namebar, there should be a number indicating the flex of the stick.

As Chadd aptly put it, if you can't feel the stick bending on a wrist shot, you're probably using too high of a flex.

I've seen Wellwoods range from 77 to 112. Definately check out the flex on the nameplate before buying.

Sound's like you're definetly talking about "The Sports Exchange" in Vancouver. I was just there last weekend. I bought the Hemsky xxx lite. Its like a older sakic but smaller . It is an 87 flex, so that would be less of a jump for you. Personally its one of my favorite curves i've ever owned. I looked at the CNT Ondrus and Sundin CNT, nice sticks, definetly have some whip to them. You should stick with a lower flex if you are using a 77 right now.

Hey Dougie, yes, I am talking about "The Sports Exchange". I just went there yesterday. So should I get the Ondrus or Sundin curve if I like shooting wristshots. The Sundin sticks all have a wood end at the top while some of the Ondrus do and some don't. I find that the Sundin sticks are a little bit heavier than the Ondrus (probably due to that piece of wood at the end of the stick). I am definitely interested in the Hemsky XXX-lite too. I just think that the curve on my One90 (Kylewood) is just a bit too..."straight".

i'm a bit confused why you would be looking at a forsberg stick considering wellwood, sundin, and ondrus are all right hand shots and forsberg shoots left, or is the st non-prostock?

Could be a forsberg clone for a right handed player.

From What i remember, the curves are very similiar if not the same. I can't remember exactly, which was which, so i can't really tell you which stick to get. For 135CDN theres no going wrong. In my oppinion, if I were to walk in there and buy a CNT i woulda bought the sundin just because I remember that i liked it more than the Ondrus. This being said, that does not mean that you should go buy it.

The Easton are 150 instead of 135 for the XXX and the One90. I don't think I can get the ST anymore since they only have the 110 flex. I sorta think that the ST's are not actually pro-stock sticks since none of them have the "This is only for professional use" like the CNT Stealth.

I think I will probably pick up a Sundin CNT Stealth if they still have it next time I go there.

Is that 150 w/ or w/o warranty. Cause as you probably know that the NBH sticks are 175 w/ warranty and 135 w/o.

I believe it's 150 without warranty. Some of the Easton sticks are actually retail sticks they had on sale for $175 before. For Left handers, they have some Synergy SE's for the same price...I wish I could shoot left hand!!

I have decided to buy either the Ondrus or Sudin Stealth instead of the XXX-lite since I already have a One90. Might be a good time to try out Easton sticks. Also, I tried my friend's pro-stock XXX-lite stick today. I found that the curve on my stick just is not right for me (Wellwood curve). It's way too straight and therefore my wristshot is no where nearly as good as using his stick, even though this stick is a 65 flex intermediate stick. Does anyone know whether Ondrus' or Sundin's curve is better for wristshots?

Yeah, I wish I am a lefty. I am actually telling my friend who is just started to play hockey to switch to a lefty and get one of those SE's hahahaha. So how do you like your XXX-lite hemsky? I am still considering those ones and comparing them to the Stealth. I will probably go in tomorrow to pick up either one.

Uh, that's probably not such a hot idea to have your buddy learn using a stick with unknown flex.

Yeah, probably not a good idea to get'm to switch hands either...

I havent got a chance to use my xxx lite yet just out on my deck with my plexi glass. Seems a bit whippy for me, but i like it for snap shots and wrist shots

What flex did you get Dougie?

As for my friend, he is just picking up his skating mainly and he doesn't really know how to shoot a wrist shot yet. I figure it's still ok for him to get used to being a lefty? hehehe, maybe I am thinking too much haha
