Oldtrainerguy28, where exactly are these stores opening up, east end, west end, north end? And these are privately owned joints too, or are they going to fly under the Source For Sports banner too?

Pro Hockey Life is opening in Vaughn Mills mall. Its a branch of Sport Rousseau in Montreal.

Hockey Experts is based in Quebec and is part of Forzani group. But as for the location in Toronto, I'm not too familiar where it's being built.

I think sometime is August.

I'll meet you there and whore the sales during opening :)

My gf has been trying to get me to take her to Vaughn Mills for months now. I think she finally has a valid reason for us to make the drive out.

haha same!

The drive from Markham/Scarlem is far man.

I know.

I commute between Scarborough and Mississauga pretty regularly. The 401 has been a disaster lately.

I popped into Hockey Experts by chance today (Woodbridge/Colossus) and even though shipments are still coming in, it is already stocked beyond anything I've seen. If I had pictures, Toronto tourism would explode. I don't know where to start. There's a shooting room (~20'x15') with about 80 composite sticks, pucks, and a net. There's even a clock to time your shotspeed; but it wasn't on, so I didn't get the bad news. The fullest skate wall I've ever seen--Top five skates of every line, every brand I could think of except Kor (Graf is on the way). It was the protective selection though that really blew me away. Besides every size being available (They've only been open since Saturday), I was surprised it wasn't the typical Sport Chek/National mid-range model selection. It's all the top end gear from RBK, Bauer, and Easton all under one roof for me to scrutinize. I hate combing the city to compare models. The pro shop area does holder mounting, skate punching, SRS stick repair, Esporta sani-wash, and has two Black Stone machines. Repalm/sewing is outsourced. Goal is focused on mainly RBK and Itech, but Vaughn is absent. All the pants (except Mission), all the helmets, all the sticks, gloves, but besides the obvious things, they have things like Superfeet insoles, plyo ladders, and parachutes. This is how I would stock a store. I hope they can keep it up. A little thin in apparel but I can think of a hundred other places dedicated to that. Grand opening July 27. The ad-campaign should launch soon (all media). Another location opening in Mississauga.

I was shown around the store for over an hour and the sales guy never once tried to avoid specifics about product features. He was only slightly less excited about the selection as me. Dude, if you're reading this, the bruiser's name is Derek Boogaard.

Pro Hockey Life was still boarded up and just has an "opening soon" banner. They may already be shelving to open around August 4. The rest of Vaughn Mills is still boring. Although Reebok has replica CCM practice jerseys for $30: CBJ, PHO, TOR, OTT, CHI, COL, STL, DAL, BUF.

Wait...so there is this place AND Hockey Life opening up within like ten minutes of each other. Sweet Jesus.

And is this open to the public yet or did you get some kind of special tour?

Woodbridge/Colossus area is on Highway 7 and the 400...just like 1 or 2 KM north of the 407.

Hockey Experts (Colossus) is open to the public. I didn't get recognized or treated special or anything. Like I said, I found it by accident and wandered in.

The Mississauga location is Mavis/Burnhamthorpe. At least according to their site.

I drove by that Mississauga spot recently, looks like a whole lot of construction is still going on. I may drive by again to see what's up. I know a Sports Mart used to be in that plaza.

Okay, I just got back from Hockey Experts in Mississauga. The store is pretty sweet and they have A LOT of stuff. Most of there stuff seems to be in mid to high level range and the pricing is the same as what you'd find at Sport Chek and National (they're all owned by Forzani).

The staff seems pretty knowledgeable and everyone was friendly when I went in. I managed to snap off some pictures while in there. They aren't great quality as the camera on my phone sucks.

This is only half of the skate wall. The other side is junior/youth skates and some figure skates.

2782579969.jpg

Lots of pants

Tons of gloves.

There weren't many wood sticks (mostly Sherwood). Several racks of OPS, NBH, RBK, Easton, and in the centre of the store were small stands with Warrior and CCM.

On the right side in the pic you can see the door to the little range where they can clock your shot speed.

There's protective gear scattered throughout the store but I didn't take a good look at it. They also have jerseys from several different teams.

Just stopped by the one in Woodbridge...pretty solid selection all around, lots of top end gear, nice to see MIA and Eagle gloves as well. The shooting range is pretty sweet too, nice selection of sticks to try from.

I picked up a pair of Mission L7 pants that they were blowing out for 49.99, they look like a great pant and are selling for $130 I think on hockey monkey.

The guy told me at their grand opening next weekend they are selling pro stock sickicks for $129 and CCM 10.0's for 79.99 (!)...can't confirm that 100% as this is just what the guy told me and he didn't seem to be exactly sure, but you can be sure I'm gonna be there next week to see for myself.

CCM 10.0's for 79.99

The guy at the Mississauga store told me the same thing.

However, the price tag says 179.99

50% off is craaaaaaaaazy.
