forbs02 20 Report post Posted July 6, 2007 Ok, so I managed to volunteer myself to run a practice for a C level women's team on Monday. It's an hour long and they want to work on power skating and shooting to score. They are essentially beginners, have played maybe a couple of years. I'm wondering if you folks have any good drills that I can use. I've already got some stickhandling basics and powerskating things for them to do...so I'm looking more for drills that teach them how to score. Any and all suggestions are welcome. Thanks! Allsmokenopancake 0 Report post Posted July 6, 2007 As someone who is still beginnerish, I can let you know the drills I have found really helped me, since they are recent, and still do most of them.SkatingCircles, figure 8, to practice crossovers on both sidesLines, but not sprints, focusing on stopping, not slow, but not sprinting, focus on the mechanicsCircles facing one direction, skate around the circles, but always face the same end of the ice, to help transitioning forward to backward skating (I hate this particular drill)ShootingI like the montreal (I think thats what its called). Players on either side of the net, one skates out to the red line, receives a pass in the slot, skates in and shoots, then the person who passed, skates out, receives the pass and so one. You can practice by limiting shot choice, one timer, they have to skate in and try to fake the goalie, skate out wide and shoot high etc.Other than that, we do arc shooting and 2 on 1 passing/shooting drillsThese are a few of the ones I find to be particularly helpful in developing my skating and shooting (although developed may be a strong word, I have exactly 2 goals to my hockey career thus far, both from this season though, so that counts as development)
