Buying A New Stick

the pulse is slightly blade heavy. The balance doesn't feel horrible, just don't expect it to feel like a XN10.

Or shoot like one.

i picked up a pulse at my lhs for 80 bucks (they were running a half off sale on all 06 ops and i got my team 10% discount). I found it to be one of the best feeling OPS i've used, unfortunately, the blade split right down the middle on me for some reason (this has never happened to me before) but for 80 dollars i can't really complain, im going to write it off as a fluke and say the mission pulse is a darn good stick.

and speaking of Pulse's (since i still have mine sitting in the basement with a crapped out blade). has anybody tried to pull a blade out of one of these yet? I'd like to get a shaft out of this for the upcoming season and was wondering of it would be possible to get a tapered or if i should just flip it.

Where did you find an SE for 100?

Local store gets consignment used equipment from the Oilers and other sources. I was "OMG! $100?". It was the cheapest stick there. Dolomites were $120 and looked to have re-fused blades in them. Most expensive were Horcoff CNT stealths for $200. CDN funds too.

I've unsuccessfully tried to pull blades out of 2 mission OPS, but both were prostocks (L-2 and Fuel). In both cases I had to cut at the fuse point and chisel the tenon out. While it's an immense pain in the ass during the process, I can't argue with the results. The fuel shaft paired with a RBK 6k blade is currently my primary stick.

I actually just picked up a Pulse, mainly because it was a good deal and I wanted to try the Rafalski curve. One of the first things I noticed was the flex... It feels really whippy(85 flex) I believe that it's just the flexpoint being a bit higher than my current sticks. We'll see how I like this stick when I get on the ice, it feels promising(which is no surprise to me).

With all this talk about balance being the most important thnig over weight, as a general rule around which point of the stick should the balance point lie? When people cut there sticks to suit them in terms of length, this would obviously change the balance point, which means for every stick every person will find it to have a different degree of balance. So in turn, you would have to feel a stick for yourself when determining whether to get it based on balance and weight etc. Please correct me if i'm totally wrong about this.

I don't believe there is any "balance point". It is "balanced" when you cant feel the weight on either end of the stick. The balance will the thrown off when you cut it. When I'm looking for a stick, I put my hand where I'm going to cut it and see what the balance is like. Sometimes the unbalanced sticks become balanced if you cut it. If they are shaft heavy that is.

You'll feel it when you pick it up because it will feel lighter than it really is and a blade heavy stick will feel heavier than it really is.

Think about it, if you take a golf club and hold it with the head away from you it feels heavier than if you hold the head of the club. Same basic principle.

But you also don't want a blade light stick either, because it takes more to stop a puck to recieve passes. Also, I just feel that if the blade is too light there isn't enough mass behind the shot.

A few grams isn't going to make a lick of difference when stopping the puck.

I find that with sticks I find to be blade light tend to have pucks bounce off of them more until I get the feel for it... Could just be coincidence, maybe they happen to just be livelier blades.

As far as the physics go, I agree... doesn't make sense but that's my experience(same goes for my using a stiffer stick for roller hockey). Although admmittenly, you've most likely used a wider selection of player sticks than I have.

Well I cant ever recall if my sticks have been blade heavy or not, but the pulse is really cheap, so I think that after I buy my Mac Daddy, which shoul be soon, I can just buy a pulse if I dont like it.
