Next Sakic

Forsberg?

Recommended Posts

The most believable thing I have heard so far is that he's not going anywhere until December. A reputable reporter for the Philly Inquirer said he made a call to Forsberg's agent last week and that his agent was upset that anybody would even be asking about Forsberg at this point.

Other than that, it seems like it's Philly, Colorado, or Vancouver. Who knows with Forsberg, though? I can see him feeling honor bound to finish business for Philly. I also have trouble seeing him going back to Colorado, despite the history he has there and the reception he'd get, as long as Pierre LaCroix has anything to do with the team. The contract offers he gave Forsberg and Foote before they left were insulting to say the least. That said, I sure would love to see him dish to Hejduk and Sakic one more time. And the way Stastny is playing, it would be amazing for him to be able to skate with and watch Forsberg for even a part of a year.

Forsberg did have another surgery on his foot about a week ago. Swedish reports indicated it was a minor surgery, so minor that he'd be skating again within 7 to 10 days after the surgery. More than anything, I hope Forsberg doesn't come back unless he's feeling close to 100%. Seeing him skating while unstable is just so sad. It's like watching Secretariat run on 3 legs. You just can't skate on bad ankles if your game is about skating over and through people to create passing lanes. I hate to imagine the game without him, but maybe it's time to hang 'em up. I'm sure that is what he's trying to determine as he skates in Sweden right now.

The best thing Forsberg could do would be to take a year off and get/stay healthy. Keep in shape, plow thru as many Viking women that you can, then come back to the NHL. Maybe he'll find out he doesn't want to come back in that time but at this point he's not worth the money he'll get. Who wants to fork out money for a guy who can't play a full season and can't figure out if this is what he wants?
