Considering buying an Oakley half shield visor-

Recommended Posts

I've finally come of age and can remove the wretched cage. I like how the Oakley visors look, but they have all of those problems.

From your experience, is it more bother than it's worth?

The biggest "probllem" is if you are willing to follow directions for cleaning the visor. If you are lazy or don't like the concept of only having one choice of (harder to find) lens cleaner, then don't bother.

I love my Oakley. I never have fogging issues. A few minor scratches here and there, but I keep reminding myself that without that visor, those scratches would be on my face or eyes. I don't understand why hockey players or officials would even step on the ice without a visor minimum. My vision is too important to me.

Anyway, I've tried various visors over the years. The Oakley definitely eliminates the distortions. You quickly forget it's even on (unless that bead of sweat drips down the inside of it).

Good luck with your decision.

I prefer Itech visors over the Oackley ones. To me there isn't a significant difference in optics, plus the Itech ones are a little less exspensive and don't require a special cleaning solution.

I would agree with you but Itech doesn't sell anything like the Oakley straight small and that works better than anything else out there for me.

I'm about to buy an okaley visor also. I had originally decided to get an Itech visor but quite a few of them aren't CSA approved. However, all the Oakleys are HECC approved (at least that's why the guys at my LHS are saying).

I havent noticed a very big difference between the oakley and itech.. I believe that some oakleys are not certified because what ive been reading is that it has to connect to the helmet at the top and go down to atleast the nose.

Yeah, I've heard that too. Although, there's a few websites that list the straight cut visors as certified.

If I'm not mistaken, all side mount visors are uncertified save for the Itech RBE V

I loved the clarity of vision on my Oakley but hated the high-maintenance of it and the easiness of the snow-flaking due to the humidity here. I used Itech and Bauer visors before trying the Oakley. I went through 1 Oakley very fast then went back to Itech and have been on Itechs ever since.

I rocked an Itech RBE I for one game before putting the cage back on. It did the job, and if I were to stick with visors, I'd probably go Itech because they're cheaper, can be cleaned with anything, and look good (through and at).
