Shogun Rua

Recommended Posts

Anyone who happens to follow MMA say a prayer for Forrest Griffin. All reports are pointing to Shogun making his UFC debut against Griffin at 76.

Are there any MMA fans on here?

that will be a big fight, Forrest isn't a slouch. If he does go down, he'll go down with a fight. Should be interesting to watch.

I figure first round TKO. He has to fight under those horrible rules he's not used to in Pride.

It will certainly be a big difference from what he's used to but many fighters are well versed and able to adjust to different rules because of the different federations and disciplines.

For example; Muay Tai, International kickboxing(K-1) or American kickboxing. Even in Muay Tai the rules vary depending on where you're fighting and under what sanctioning body(if there is one).

I think Forest is going to get worked. I can't see a knockout or a TKO because Forrest is a really tough guy with skills. But I don't think he is in the upper tier yet. When he lost to Tito, Tito wasn't at his best. If Forrest could have pulled off that win, he might have had a chance against Shogun. I think it will go the distance, unless Forrest gets submitted, but otherwise he will be a bloody mess at the end.

That might be possible since he is tough. Shogun has gotten better on the ground though, late last year he made Kevin Randleman submit. Randleman might not be the dude he was in UFC anymore but he can still wrestle with most guys. Most of his losses have been due to trying to stand up with guys like Liddell, Rampage, Couture.

And of course Shogun is still completely vicious, especially with his legs.

Wandy Silva is now also officially in UFC.

He wants to fight(murder) Liddell in December, but Chuck's fighting in September so I doubt that happens.

Giggity giggity goo. I am giddy about tonight. Watching the countdown on spike now.

Rua should beat griffin, but I will be rooting for griffin, nice guy (and I watch the UFC reality show, so you get to know them)

Also, I'm a big mat hughes fan, so good to see him as a coach for this season

Might want to edit the first post and put a spoiler alert in it.

As I said in my earlier post, I was rooting for griffin.

As for Rua not getting beat. Endurance is part of the game. Look at someone like Couture, how, honestly, shouldn't be able to beat someone as young and talented as Gonzaga, but he is a workout freak, and so, apparently is Griffin.

They were both in the ring for the same amount of time, if Griffin has the better conditioning to make him keep going after 2 rounds, as he did, then he deserved the win (again, I'm bias, I like Griffin)

They need to fight again. I'm pretty sure Shogun overlooked him. He even took time out to get married during the training for this fight, if that doesn't show looking past someone then I don't know what does.

Happy to see Chuck lose again. Give Jardine the Wandy fight.

Chucks a good fighter, when it's standing up. He talks a lot about his ju jitso skills, but he is average at best.

And Jardine is a similar fighter, with a better ground game.

So, has Couture cracked the Gracie Ju Jitsu? Gonzaga and Rua are both brazilian ju jitsu experts with "heavy hands" for the stand up game.

Couture beat Gonzaga, Griffin trains with Couture, and says he watches him, and tries to learn from him.

Has Couture cracked the brazilian ju jitsu, or was it just two fighters from the same camp that happened to beat two brazilian experts?

BJJ is getting really over rated latley. Every time you see someone who is the "master of submissions" fight someone who punches, the fight consists of the bjj guy on his back looking for subs while the other guy punches his face till he dies. Striking is how you win. A submission guy cant submit you if ur not on the ground. if he gets close, punch him. if it goes to the ground, ground and pound. I'd be looking for submissions if i happened to be on the ground in the 3rd round maybe, cause ur more tired and things are more slow. Theres lots of times at my classes when i learn a new sub and i think "id rather just punch him from this position". I think instead of looking for subs, you should wait for the oppertunity to sub.

I did not see the fight, I only heard about it. They may fight again, but they certainly don't have to. I am glad the outcome is what it is, though I am surprised. This is now a professional sport. Part of being a pro is knowing how to train and prepare for your fights. To get caught fat and gassed in a big fight is just stupid. This is not Pride anymore. Maybe those guys were arguably tougher, but UFC is a professional organization. Rua is going to have to work his way up again and prove he takes this seriously. And rightfully so.

Thanks Smoke.

Honestly I did not even try youtube because it seems like in the past these clips have been pulled quickly. It looks like pretty good fights for the five minutes I watched. And Rua DID look fat and gassed. I am liking Forrest more and more every time I see him.

I thought most amusing was when Silva put his hands over his head after Liddell lost.

That was a poor idea of Dana White scheduling them two to fight in December and then Liddell loses.

As far as the Shogun fight , Griffin earned that win. I think Shogun thought he was going to pound him, like he did to Jackson here.

He was poorly conditioned this time.

Shogun gassed just like his brother Ninja did the week or so before, I think they just underestimated their opponents. Shogun is a great fighter I hope he comes back stronger then ever. Forrest showed up in amazing condition, there's a lot of good fighters that are excelling over at Randy's place.
