Rec leagues in Toronto

Recommended Posts

Beers on Sunday mornings, eh? Why not. I think Ice Gardens at York University (near Steeles and Jane) has Sunday morning men's leagues. Pretty good facility but might be far depending on where you live. Your timing is right for the winter leagues, as I think registrations are just starting. Check out icegardens.com or call 'em - almost postive you can sign up as an individual. There's also the True North leagues, which play out of Rinx on Orfus Road (truenorthhockey.com). They might have a Sunday morning league as well. Good luck.

I've read up on all those. Thanx guys. I like the Ice Gardens cause its close to me plus your guaranteed Sunday mornings. But 425.00 + gst is more than all the others. Has anyone played in that league? What did you think? Is there gate fees?

Thanks!

I played in a weeknight league at Ice Gardens last winter and it was pretty good. A little chippy at times but you get that most places I guess. Decent pro shop, nice bar (for beers on Sunday morning). I can't remember what I paid, but during the winter I think you get over 20 games guaranteed. What do you mean by gate fees?

I'm playing Thursday nights at the Ice Gardens this summer. I like the officiating a lot better than with True North (Brampton). They are much more experienced. I think they have the parking gates up on Sunday's, but if they're down just flash your player card. The league has ID cards made up for players. It's kind of a goofy system with team rosters. They give you a clipboard with the list of registered players and it has a box where you put in all the player cards. So you sign the list and drop in your card. At the end of the game, the timekeeper hands back the cards with the gamesheet. If you have a fan in a seperate car, they'll have to pay for parking or get their ticket validated at one of the shops (If the gates are down). Other than that, parking is quite far from the entrance but it's a great to play on Olympic ice once in a while.
