As long as the stuff fits, you did well. I tried a pair of Nike Quest V9 skates, they fit nice off the ice but were a little too big in the toe box once I got on the ice. If they fit well but you can over tighten them then you have a good fit

My understanding was that the new Flexlite 18 was exactly the same as the previous 10: any redesign was purely cosmetic, if at all.

I would be curious to know where you got them and what you paid.

I've owned Nike skates and gloves before and I really don't have a lot of bad things to say about them. The skates have a great, comfortable fit and perform well on ice. Lots of toe box room almost to the point of being sloppy but it didn't effect my skating to any degree. I'm really not sure about their long time durability though because I switched to Easton after about a year and a half but up to that point the Nikes where fine.( Had a pair of Quest 2's) My son still uses them, however he only plays on occassion, he's not big into hockey like I am. He's also using my old Quest 1 gloves and they are hanging in there as well. If you like Nike skates and equipment it's not a bad thing. Their skates are reasonably priced and give you a lot of features you'd find in a lot of more expensive skates at a fraction of the price. The protective is pretty decent as well but may tend to be a tade on the more expensive side.

The Nike's are good but they're no Easton. :P

I have a pair of flex 10s fit nice and looks great no complaints here + since most of the people around my area go for other brands my skates are a bit unique and everyone tells me they look nice.
