Good Hockey shops in NYC, NJ area?

Recommended Posts

I will be visiting NYC and the New Brunswick, NJ area over Labor Day and was wondering if there were any recommended Hockey shops to visit. Looking for a shop that has a good selection of skates in stock. Thanks!!

The Ice House Pro Shop in Hackensack, NJ is closed Saturday, Sunday, Monday of Labor Day week-end. We will be open the Friday before Labor Day until 6 PM and re-open Tuesday at 12 noon. The Labor Day week-end is our final summer break before the September season kick-off starts.

If you are going to go as far south as Howell....then just shoot down Rt9 another 9 miles south and you can also hit Play it Again sports in Toms River at the Home Depot shopping center.

If you are gonna make the trek to Toms River, how about the Ocean Ice Palace? I havn't been there in a verrrry long time, but it used to be a good shop. Anyone know if it still is?

I would second the plug for Ocean Ice palace (actually ocean hockey supply), good selection of stuff there....there's also a smaller shop in Bound Brook (much closer to new brunswick) called the Hockey Haus that has a decent selection, for around here. Probably the 2 best "local" are the previously mentioned consignment sports and ocean hockey, about 40 min away from new brunswick, but kinda close to each other (not too far out of the way if you're gonna hit great adventure, either)

*just wanted to say that I've never made it to darkstar's shop, but I've heard great things about it, too, it's just in the other direction than the other places

Holy Hell....I can't believe I forgot about the ice palace. I used to live 3 miles from there and play there. But yes....you are correct. They are a very good shop with a pretty deep selection on all equipment...but not that deep with sticks though. Other than that....great store.

From what I've heard, their selection has died down, but it's worth a shot. Paragon is in Union Square.

If you're willing to make a trip to queens, There's also Sports Plus in Ridgewood. It's pretty close to the Fresh Pond Road stop on the M train.

You're going to pay a premium when shopping for gear in the city though.

IMO, best shops with variety up in northern NJ is Ice House in Hackensack, NJ. Ice Vault in Wayne, NJ. Sports Section/ Non-Stop Hockey in Cedar Grove, NJ.

I agree with you on the Ice House.....that is a great shop with a REALLY good selection on skates especially.

I don't really shop their unless it's a last minute thing when I am playing there..I am loyal to the Sports Section as i've been going there since I was a tyke.
