Easton Hybrid Blade

Recommended Posts

I just bought an easton hybrid blade yesterday and took it to a puck shoot today. I took about 20-30 shots, about 3 of them being slap shots (my slap shot isnt hard at all), as I take a slapper, my blade breaks at the point the hosel connects to the blade itself. Easton doesnot have a warranty on blades correct? How should I approach my LHS about a replacement? Any other blade reccomendations in the $20-30 range? Also how can i get this out if nothing is coming out of the shaft?

1. I think you may be f*cked on the replacement.

2. I would try a composite blade, they last forever with me.

3. Heat it up just as if you were going to pull it out but then stick a piece of rebar in the butt end and give it a tap and the blade reminents should pop right out.

Alternately, you could put a long wood screw in the remnants of the hosel and put it in a clamp to get it out.

I think you just got a bad or weak blade; mine lasted much longer than that.

I'm not so sure that the blade was defective.. I went thru 5 Easton hybrids last season (bought a 6-pack). all broke where the composite face meets the wooden hosel. Iv'e been playing hockey since i was 9 (24 at the moment), and i have never broken as many blades as i did last season.

The blade also looses it stiffness fast, and becomes "chrunchy"..

Worst blade i ever used.

I don't think he was taking issue with where the blade broke, but with how quickly it broke. It makes sense that it would break at the point where two different materials come together- it's naturally the weakest point on the blade.

No, I meant the part that goes into the stick and then the blade itself. Anyone have any reccomendations? sherwood 530 any good? Any tips on how to try and get a replacement from the shop?

dont know if you guys have this blade on your side of the "sea", but here we have a blade called "TPS carbon" it's a composite blade with wood core and wood tenon. Great durability and nice feel. Available as standard and tapered.

RBK's lower end blades are also nice. If i remember it correctly, the 2K is the same blade as KOHO crossover, and 3K is the same as KOHO 4440

I got the sherwood 950, at the tip of the blade, the top of the blade itself, and part of the vertical part of the blade leading up to the hosel are not covered it fiberglass, is the normal or something to worry about?

I've seen a lot of people break their hybrids where you said you broke yours, right where the tenon meets the hosel, I would personally stay away from Easton hybrids.

Never was a big fan of the hybrid. I'm not sure where you live but none of the LHS here in Vancouver have a warranty on blades.

If you are unsatisfied with the product you need to contact Easton directly. They do not warranty blades but if you call and talk to them I'm sure that they will take care of you. They want you to keep buying Easton products and it would be dumb for them to piss you off over a blade that cost them $3 to make. It is not fair to take it back to your LHS. It is not their fault. Stores only resell the product, they don't make them. If the LHS gives you a replacement/refund then that money will be a loss and Easton will not reimburse them. You can't expect them to take the hit when it wasn't their fault. You can call Easton @ 1-800-940-6445.

hmm I think that might be worth a try, will i need to send back the blade? if so the hosel is gone.. the lhs threw it away when i had them take it out...Does this completely ruin my chances or am i alright? How should i go about doing this (getting a replacement from easton?)

You shouldn't need the hosel. Just call the customer service # that I put in my previous post and tell them what you told us here. Just don't be a dick to them. The nicer you are the more willing they'll be to help you.

I think its well known that there is no warranty on all wood products. If you have a beef is nothing to do with the LHS but Easton itself. I know guys who buy wood sticks and break them the very first game but they know there is no warranty on wood blades or sticks. You can try to call easton but they'll probably tell you the same thing.

NO, the break had nothing to do with the shaft.

Ive found those hybrid blades have really crappy wood used with them, we were getting those blades back from everyone last year at my LHS.

Just call and be a nice person about it, just like lb33knight has mentioned. If they decide to replace it, they most likely will not want the blade back because it is garbage now.

I personally hate easton blades that aren't composite, they get sloppy too quickly. Sher-wood 950 is the best for blades in my opinion.

well i just bought the 950 to replace it, is it supposed to be without fiberglass around the top, few inches before hosel and the tip of the toe?

Are you talking about these areas?

yes, except the circle on the left would extend the length of the blade, and the leftmost point of the blade only on the tip is uncovered as well.

Every 950 blade I have used, has been that way. Up at the hosel has never been a problem in any way to me. The only problem on the top of the blade is that it kinda chips here and there because it is pretty thin there, but nothing that a lil tape job won't fix.

Ya, that is there updated cosmetics. But they are great blades and not expensive at all.

But I think we should get back on topic before the mods get a lil mad. If you have any other questions just PM me.
