RBK 2007 shin guard breakdown

Recommended Posts

RBK 2007 shin guard breakdown (from website info only):

9K - Pro Level 3-D mesh with PLAYDRY for improved comfort and breathability. LIGHTWEIGHT "HOCKEY-CELL" suspension liner (made in Sweden) for better impact absorption. Removable/adjustable calf protector.

8K and 7K (no longer produced in 2007)

6K - Fitlite construction with EPP foam for top quality lightweight protection, vented shell and liner for improved breathability, removable inner liner with brushed nylon material at comfort zone. Removeable/Adjustable calf protector???

5K - Looks similar to the 9K although no PLAYDRY/made in Sweden hockey liner. 3-D mesh liner for comfort and breathability. Removable calf protector?

4K - Fitlite construction. similar to 6K but, no EPP foam?, no removable liner with brushed nylon material?

3K - removable ASD inner comfort liner.

All say they have the lock strap to help prevent hyperextension

Feel free to note any corrections.

As for which ones are slimmer thinner, 9Ks or 6Ks?

JR,

I saw and read that post. It was helpful and the catalog had some good info, but doesn't cover all the shin pad features.

I hadn't see anything that addressed the RBK Shin 6k vs. 9k question on which one was slimmer/thiner (and or narrower) though. Is there is any size difference between the two. I'm going from websites only as the local hockey shops here in AZ don't have all the RBK models.

Thanks

Sorry, did not see your question at the end.

6k will be slimmer than the 9k - they are two distinct types of shinguards.

The 9k will fit conventionally - the 6k will sit on top of the leg.

What has been the feedback on the 6k style shinguard compared to the more traditional style. Correct me if I'm wrong but didnt the CCM TACKS have a similar design back in 05ish as the 6k's?

Thought so. Has the feedback been good on the comfort of the shinguard as well as the protection? I figure it must be if they have taken a second run on them.

The 6k's have amazing protection. The only thing you will feel is your leg moving back from impact.

But one downside I found was that the straps(forget the name) that keep your shin away from the pad all broke on me. Other then that, great shin pad.

Thats what I was curious about. How well will the fitsling suspension straps hold up? I tryed a pair of these on the other day and thought they were different, not bad. But I was hesatant about the straps lasting, at least for a heavier guy.

They might have fixed it on this years model, but last years, the strap was kinda plasticy. And I am a heavier guy, 220lbs. But also play defence so I go down alot.

After a season 1 strap went on me, near the end of 2nd season all straps went on me. I scrapped them and I am now using Bauer Supreme 8000's.

Both seasons include a summer beer league and a winter junior league.

So I take it that you didnt think they were worth the $$. I dont blame you, how often should one have to replace a pair of shinguards?

i use the 4k myself which has the same kind of straps as the 6k and they have held up real good for me. I really like them because i think they are better ventilated especially for roller hockey. also the straps have held up fine for me and i'm about 175lbs

Well for me I get everything a pretty decent price because I work at my LHS.

I usually replace my gear every year or 2, bits and pieces here and there.

But to tell the truth you only need to replace shin gaurds whenever you feel that they aren't doing their job anymore, same goes for all equipment.

Maybe see what JR or any of the other members has to say about this years model of the 6k's are like and if they fixed the straps, because I havn't seen them yet, since I havn't worked at my LHS all summer.

I did just the opposite. 8000 --> 6k's.

FWIW, I've worn mine about 10 times and I like them MUCH better than the 8000's simply because they are 1/2 the size and I'm a forward. The 8000's are huge.

I found the fit to be comfy and I've had no problems w/ protection. My only issues have been:

1. the top securing strap is a non-elastic piece of velcro. It wasn't long enough for me, and it dug into my calf. I just removed it and I use tape to hold them in place. The bottom strap almost holds them in place well enough on its own.

2. I do notice some degradation on the interior straps that hold the guard off your skin. The bottom edge of the bottom strap has tiny pieces of the padding missing, presumable from just rubbing up and down on my shin. That is my only concern right now.

The straps are different from last year. It is held together better and it is a different material, more comfortable than last year's.

If it wasn't for the straps I would have stuck with them, now that I know they are a different material I might migrate back to them. The 8000's are great but I realy liked the 6k's when they weren't broken

How do the 6k's compare to Stealth S9's? I'm looking for narrower shins as my Bauer 4000's slide around a bit, but I also want something that has good calf protection.
