Rbk 9k Pumps

Recommended Posts

So I had hockey tryouts today. We were doing a quick start and stop drill and I was doing the drill. I stopped and then took a push off of my left foot and heard a loud cracking noise and then felt a little pinch in the bottom of my foot. I went over to the bench to look and I see a huge crack in the bottom of my skate. The crack kind of overlapped and created a ridge under my foot bed. I was wondering if there is any thing I can do about this. I looked and the warranty for the boot is 90 days and I'm well over that. Am I screwed?

I will try to get some pictures up but my camera isn't working right now...

I bought them online at hockeymonkey.com

I was planning on calling both them and Rbk but I'm just asking if anyone has ever seen something like this because I haven't.

I'm trying to upload pics on photobucket but for some reason its not letting me. I'll get them up ASAP though

-EDIT-I'm trying to send them to photobucket through my cell phone but its not working at all. I've done this before and it usually works so I'll see if I can get it to work.

Unfortunately it's out of warranty, so unlikely you'll be able to get anything from RBK. There are a few places that repair soleplates, but costly.

On a good note, many skates develop cracks in sole plates and will go many years before any problems exhist. I've seen skate with dozens of cracks and still going strong. I suggest you have someone just check your rivets to make sure they are good and tight.

There is normally a small dip thing on the outsole, so that whole thing isn't it. It doesnt look bad from the pictures, but as I said when my foot is in the boot there is a definite ridge...

Ya i think thats what happened...I talked to a guy at my LHS about them. He says that the steel is the only thing thats really keeping it from completely bending when i stride...

Has anyone ever seen this before?

A similar thing happened to my Vector Pros; the outsole delaminated when I was doing a quick start. It seems to start at the drainage holes that are drilled through the sole.

I wonder if the drill bit starts delaminating the sole when they drill the drainage holes? Also, their location in the middle of all the torsion and racking could lead to problems. The Easton composite soles look like they have molded drainage holes further forward.

Even if they are out of warrenty i would take them back to the lhs where you bought them. If the crack was caused by the drainage holes there still might be something that can be done about them. It's well worth looking into

That's unusual. Bring it back to wherever you bought them, and try to convince them they were defective. That's an expensive skate.

Oh, and how did the try-outs go?

I would get in touch with hockeymonkey then or even email RBK directly. I've worn these skates for 2.5 years and never had that problem but it's worth a shot getting in contact with them

Ya my dad and I did exactly that, called Rbk and threw a fit...They said that they stand behind their products and that these are a top of the line skate and should not be breaking. They will ship me a new pair once they look at them to see if they were abused and see if they can possibly fix them. The problem is I have practice everyday and have to send in my skates then they'll look at them and send me a new pair, so I'm skate-less for about a week or so...

In my past experiences with other companies and their defective products.....I'd say that being without skates for 1 week is VERY optimistic.
