Is this is a good enough reason for getting banned from a rink?

Recommended Posts

I played in a summer adult league and got suspended 3 games for "abuse of an official" which involved him holding me and me grasping my hands out of his reach.

The front desk lady is a real bitch. She asked if I "knew how to read" behind my back and called my brother an idiot once. So I get in an argument with her over my suspension because I thought it was only for 1 game and then I call her a bitch.

The manager sees this and says I'm done for the league. Somewhat understandable, but then I find out I'm banned from the rink. I guess they can do whatever they want but that's really lame.

What did you do to start the altercation on the ice? To be honest, nobody can probably answer this b/c when stuff like this happens to guys, 99% of the time they see themselves as completely in the right and spin it that way. I think the best thing to tell you is that you have to learn when and where to pick your fights and sometimes it is better to just let stuff go, you know? Above and beyond that, shouldn't have fought with a woman b/c fighting with one of them is a hopeless endeavor, plus it just makes you look worse in front of others.

As a ref, our league has banned people for only placing their hands on, or nudging a ref with their shoulder. I gave a guy a 5 min major plus a game misconduct last season and on his way off of the ice shoulder checked me....our league ruled to permanently ban him from the league. Honestly, being a ref is a tough job, as there are always people that think that you have made the wrong call...due to that sign ups through USA hockey of the years have declined for new ref certifications. That being said....very few leagues over the past few years are willing to put up with ANY player giving ANY crap to refs. Most people in hockey don't realize that running their mouth at the ref after he has made a call will NEVER reverse the call, and typically only paint a bullseye on your back for the ref to target you and scrutinize everything you do going forward.

I used to ref as well in all levels, youth through adult. Whenever a mens league player got a minor penalty, he usually acted like it was 20 to life I was giving him. It was only 2 minutes. Take the seat in the box and get on with it. Most refs have played the game. We laugh with our partner when a player gets a penalty and acts like that slash, trip, etc. didn't happen. Hey, we play the game, too so I know what a penalty is whether I see or do it when I'm playing. How can I argue with a ref when I know what I just did I would put myself in the box for? I skated to the box before he got to the timekeeper every time.

We need more info on why you ended up face-to-face with the ref but pissing and moaning at rink management will never solve anything in your favor. It is their ball and their playground. Don't screw it up for yourself.

What exactly is "me grasping my hands out of his reach"?

some 6'6 guy pushes me to the ice after the whiste and while I lay there I wave my stick at him and it hits his cage, the ref leads me away from the incident with him holding my arms and I get my hands out of his hold.

the reason I was kicked out of the rink was for being in an argument with the women. They gave me 3 games for the ref incident and that's it. After the argument the manager just told me to get out of the league. I then find out they also kicked me out of the rink. dipshits

That's why I stopped arguing with a ref. Instead I just go ask politely why I got the penalty, say okay and serve my minutes.

I have no idea how to insert a link to a previous thread, but this is the same guy who posted on 3-14-2007 titled Last Senior Game, about how they were planning fights and disruptions of the game. Might give you some insight to the mentality.

I'm not sure if this link will work:

Last Senior Game

Go me. It works.

Well I wasn't there so I can't say whether or not this woman was as much of a b**** as you say but I do know that arguing with employees of any establishment is not in your best interest. In the future, I would advise you to let whatever happens on the ice stay on the ice. Don't try to get the rink folks to take your side. Accept whatever decisions the officials make and leave it at that. If you berate the employees and treat them like crap then you're only going to make things worse. Overall, I would say you really need to keep your attitude in check because it is the right of any business to say whether or not they want your business or want you around. I used to work at a rink and we would not tolerate any crap from customers whether they were hockey players or figure skater. It does not matter how right you think you are there is no reason to disrespect the employess at the rink and if you do then you deserve to be booted. Just remember, the fact that you pay to use the rink and it's services does not mean you're entitled to treat the help like crap.

I think that this post here says it best. This guy has a history of disrespecting the officials on the ice (and I take this personally being a ref for 13 years) and just being an immature punk on the ice. Personally....if you aren't banned from any USA Hockey sanctioned event....I think that you got off easy.

Agreed. With more people like him around, our sport will turn into football. Just a bunch of criminals.

Yes it is a good enough reason to get you banned.

The ref wasn't holding you for any other reason than he thought you might have another accident and bang your stick on someone else's cage by mistake.

Pulling away from him showed him your intentions.

Then you make things worse by getting into an argument with the lady who was running the rink.

I;m glad you don't play in my league.

Isn't it a USA hockey rule, that if you get suspended from a league for fighting, that you aren't allowed to skate at any rink that has anything to do with USA hockey until that suspension is up? Or am I just remembering random shit thats not true <_<

some 6'6 guy pushes me to the ice after the whiste and while I lay there I wave my stick at him and it hits his cage,

If I was running a league and I heard about you smacking someone upside the head with your stick, I would try to kick you out too. Its players like you who think you got passed up by the NHL draft that end up hurting people who have to get up and go to work in the morning.

Well, you were a jackass.. You are responsible for your stick at all times and you whacked the guy in the face. You were lucky it was just a cage and not his neck. If you do crap like that you aren't fit to play with guys who have to go to work or school the next day. Getting bumped and pushed is part of the game, you don't have to be a maniac to prove something. I know types like this, they should just put their sticks down and go into the locker room with a tape measure and start comparing....

man whats wrong with you? its summer beer league, not the NHL! i honestly laugh in the faces of players like you who go around in rec league runnin their mouth tryin to be heroes for the rink attendant (usually the only one watching) because theyre absolute ass clowns who are either

1) atrocious hockey players

2) the self proclaimed "enforcer" on their beer league team who ditch the shoulder pads (which means theyre automatically tougher then most) and acts like theyre gonna fight

or 3) idiots who havnt realized summer beer league is for FUN and to stay in shape for an upcoming season which actually matters

the reffings isnt always great in it, but who cares! thats hockey

I couldn't have said it better myself. I think the refs in leagues like this should be quicker at making examples of a-holes like you. Their is always at least one bad apple in these leagues that ruins it for us others.

after reading your post in the link about your final high school game I'm going to say you are some typical jerk off kid who couldn't go any farther in hockey and now is more pissed of because you play rec hockey.

Here is something to remember: IT"S RECREATIONAL HOCKEY! People are out there to have fun and enjoy the game and don't give a shit about winning the BIG game, because they have real lives and real jobs.

This whole story stinks.

Am I the only one who thinks it's strange that a guy who is lying on the ice can wave his stick and accidentally hit the cage of a skater who is standing up and is 6'6"?

From fantasizing about fights in high school, to berating volunteer or underpaid referees to berating some old lady who works at a desk at the rink: This is the kind of guy who makes it a habit to take the shine off of recreational hockey, or any recreational sport for that matter. I wonder if there were any kids in the stands. What is their perception of hockey after seeing this guy go off on everyone in sight? Buddy, go home, grab a 6 pack, watch some pro wrestling and then try to fight the urge to kick your dog.

Yuck.

VERY good point that I hadn't thought of.

And then when he is done kicking his dog, he can go and join Mike Vick in the basement of Shawshank.

:P

Is this is a good enough reason for getting banned from a rink?

To specifically answer the question.

Yes.

To elaborate further.

Being a wanker is always a good way to go about getting yourself banned from somewhere

you guys are overblowing this, I think I said twice that the reason I was banned was for arguing with the front desk, nothing on the ice. and yes, I tried to slash the guy, but it ended up going in his cage. god know how many times a stick went into my cage and nothing happened

also about the last senior high school game, nothing much ended up happening, there were to fights instigated by both my team and the opponent, but nothing stupid like purpusefully injuring someone happened.

jesus christ, don't pretend like you know me from some comments I made on the internet.

fantasizing about fights was joke locker room talk, berating referees - the only incident other than this was getting a 10 minute major for not wearing a mouth guard. about the rather young front desk lady - she had it coming if you read what I said. Everyone of my teamates thinks she's a bitch and believe it or not, I hit his cage , 6'6 is probably too much closer to 6'4 - we call him big bird w his yellow helmet

Out of curiosity what rink?

ice castle,

and i think some of you guys are forgetting that he was the one, after the whistle, that first cross checked me to the ice not once, but twice before I slashed him back. my teamates were pissed off and argued with the front desk about that guy not being suspended at all
