Perfecta Skate holders

Recommended Posts

Although I never skated on them back in the 80s, I sharpened many, many Perfecta blades. Two things to consider: the holder blade combo is heavy. It is nowhere near light as a Tuuk Custom Plus or Tuuk Lightspeed. The other consideration is that the Perfecta steel was extremely hard. In other words, sharpening them was a pain in the butt. You could dress the wheel for each blade sometimes. Now, 263 is my size so........

Yes Gretzky skated on a pair of Blue Perfcta's. Prior to the manufacturer SLM going out of business Gretzky purchased many pairs.

He had to quit using them however because of holder breakage

If someone is considering buying these to skate on them you should be aware that they will likely break after the first puck hits them.

The plastic in the holders is effected by UV light and the plastic becomes very brittle. This is the same for helmets as well BTW.

Shelf life is several years but Perfecta passed the several years mark a long time ago

I have them on a pair of Daoust 301 that I bought in 1982.

I'm not qualified to tell you much from a technical point of view put I've never had a problem with them. I still use the skates when I skate outdoors from time to time.

I am the seller of these perfecta's on ebay.

To helpers comments. "If someone is considering buying these to skate on them you should be aware that they will likely break after the first puck hits them.

These perfecta's are not from the 80's. They were recently made. The molds are in england and the steel is sheffield quality steel. These blades are still being produced for several small skate manufacturers.

I recall Riedell using these on Hockey Rental skates. Anyone know if they (Riedell) are they still doing it? They were white with carbon blades.

skatedoktor, are they being manufactured in other colors as well? What hardware are they using to secure the steel to the holder? If I recall, the hardware was a cheap stainless that broke pretty easily. Also, that steel always kept an edge for quite awhile.

Riedell isn't anymore. LOL I remember that conversation we had - that's when I was at RDV and I started to scour for some 296s.

Perfecta was the inspiration behind the Graf Cobra. Look at them and you'll see.

Yeah can definately see the shape of the perfecta in the cobra holders. Never really noticed it before. Thanks for the insight

Just noticed these holders for sale on ebay. these are the holders that gretzky used i think. Has anyone ever skated on these holders?

http://cgi.ebay.ca/Perfecta-Skate-Holder-S...1QQcmdZViewItem

I used these holders for many years. The first time I ever used them was on a pair of Daoust 301 Nationals I bought. After that every pair of skates I bought I immediately replaced the holders and blades with Perfecta. I used them on my Bauer Supremes, and eventually CCM Super Tacks that I replaced in mid 2000. I had no idea they still made the Perfecta holder until now, when on a whim I googled them and noticed this thread. I just bought some new CCM's and the Perfecta blades popped back into my head. In my opinion these are great holders, I never had any problems with them whatsoever. Now that I know they are still around I just may have to look into fitting my new U+ skates with them.
