Power Skating Clinics at Canlan Ice Sports

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with the Power Skating clinics at Canlan Ice Sports in Scarborough (or another facility).

If anyone has any thoughts they'd like to share on issues like quality of instruction, I'd like to hear about it as I am considering taking one of their clinics.

its over for the summer. But there are weekly power skating. For the level it suits more of a house league player. high performance hockey skills is the same thing but for more advance players. For the instruction I know the instructors there are two thats AAA juvenile and they work you pretty hard.

I've taken a few adult classes from the Canlan facility here just outside of Vancouver (Burnaby 8 Rinks) and I give them two thumbs up.

Well this is a mega bump.

I'm looking to take the Powerskating class at Burnaby 8 Rinks this Fall and was wondering if anyone has had more recent experience than jjtt99. If so, was it worth it?. I've never played ice hockey but I do know how to skate decently and perform the basic hockey skills so I'm thinking about taking the level 2 class. I spent this summer playing roller hockey in PICH and our team will be playing ice this fall. I go to stick and puck every week as well but feel I could use a coach to help critique my technique.

This is a timely thread for me. I too am thinking about joining one of the Power Skating and Hockey Skills classes that are run out of Canlan Etobicoke. I played mens league Tier "D" over the summer and am not sure if I should take the level 1 or level 2 class. I am looking specifically for comments by people who have taken the class at Canlan Etobicoke.

At least 2 ...maybe 3.

I've been taking the level 3 classes in Oakville over the last couple of years and would rank myself as a E level player.

Great classes, I just wish they offered them during weeknights and not just Sundays as I will play on Sundays this winter.

Sometimes classes can have too many people and it's alot harder to get personal help from the instructors though. But overall I'd say it's a pretty decent program for the price.

hey guys.

okay so i have taken power skating level 2 at canlan in etobicoke on friday mornings...very good.

also i have started taking power skating with the city of mississauga, cheaper than canlan and very good. this summer i took power skating sunday mornings...holy smokes...made a world of difference, with conditioning and cardio and edge control.

thsi winter i am doing power skating plus with the city of mississauga, and adult power skating advanced with the city of toronto. both are good cheap options...and well worth the money. if you go on the city websites, toronto or mississauga you can get schedules and info about the skating classes.

just a warning...the mississauga power skating class (not power skating plus) has a very high puke and sweat and crying rate...no word of a lie...ive done the first 2 and did the third one after the first class...i am 25 years old. hahahahahahah lol hahaha. :P bring lots of gatorade, water, and advil. believe you will need all three. and make sure you have a few hours free after the power skating mississauga class to nap or rest.

if you know how to skate but want to get better with your edges then power skating is the way to go.

hope this helps.

:)

Can't speak for the other locations, but I took the advanced level at Canlan Ice Sports in Scarborough several years ago, and it was an absolute waste of money and time. The instructors were no doubt great players, but young guys that were more interested in starting a drill and going to the other end of the ice to practice shooting on their own, ignoring the folks that paid good money for instruction.

No doubt some of the instructors are better than others in different locations, but if you go to a couple sessions and find it lacking, I'd be pretty up front about requesting a refund.

The programs have changed completely at Scarborough. Now there are a dedicated bunch of guys who love hockey. There is also new management in the programs department which help big time. I'm not familiar with instructors years ago but I''m sure they are long gone.
