RadioGaGa 162 Report post Posted September 10, 2007 didn't see it, but that's awful. hope for the best.He was covering on the kickoff to the 2nd Half. The tackle LOOKED totally textbook, after he hit the returner, he just fell and kinda twitched. From what I've read...the twitching was him trying to move...but because of the severed nerve, the "move" signals couldn't get past his shoulders. Just awful to see.No thumbs up like Mike Utley....nothing. Hoping it's more like the Dennis Byrd injury. It took a while, but he did walk again.
JR Boucicaut 3802 Report post Posted September 10, 2007 Got the names crossed up...it's actually Kevin Everett.Hate to see something like that...and plus he's a 'Cane :(Didn't get that much PT down in Miami - fell behind Winslow II and Olsen.
mack 44 Report post Posted September 10, 2007 I watched that game this morning and kept waiting for him to move. You see stuff like that where a guy goes down and stays down, but minutes later he's back up on his feet and gets checked out. Just a sick pit in my stomach seeing him go thru all that without moving and being carted off.

Cause. <_< Scary stuff tho.Well..even after all the trouble/injuries they had today. If not for that crazy long pass attempt on 3rd and short, they could have (and probably should have) won that game. A penalty kept that final Denver drive alive didn't it?Actually...probably the wrong place/time to discuss football strategy. When a man from the team is lying in a bed, unable to move his legs. willy0314 0 Report post Posted September 10, 2007 Just heard a report- Everett is out of surgery (cervical cord injury? bone chips removed-whatever that means) and will be in the ICU for 24 hours to monitor him.As for the tackel, he lead with his head and was out before he hit the ground. He was filling in on the kick coverage team for Coy Wire, who is a safety/LB who got hurt filling in for Ellison (starting LB hurt in preseason). Ko simspon also broke his ankle, to the point where it was turned almost pointing backwards....I don't remember watching a game where so many players got hurt so badly. Broken forearm, broken ankle, broken neck, sprain MCL...
Wolfpack_1986 154 Report post Posted September 10, 2007 from the video and what i've read and been able to gather, the mechanism was likely similar to what happened to Erik Cole (injury wise). My guess is the Vertebra in the spine compressed and fractured into a bajillion pieces. The difference is the shattered vertebra was impinging the spinal cord. In Cole, the pieces stayed in place and surgery was not needed. The paralysis could have been just from bone fragments putting pressure on the cord and impairing sensation and motor skills, or it could have nicked/cut the cord, no way to tell until they release a statement, obviously. There is a chance it wont be permanant, but its never good when surgery needs to be done in that area. He's likely done with football, but I'm praying he can live life as he's known it.

chk hrd 164 Report post Posted September 11, 2007 things are looking up for him:http://blogs.usatoday.com/sportsscope/2007...-news-conf.htmlORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Kevin Everett sustained a "catastrophic" and life-threatening spinal-cord injury while trying to make a tackle during the Buffalo Bills' season opener and is unlikely to walk again, the surgeon who operated on him said Monday.Unfortunately things are NOT looking that up for him. :("A Bloomberg reporter, apparently able to hear the questions we could not hear on the ESPNews broadcast, says Everett's chances of walking again are "statistically very small."Dr. Andrew Cappuccino's quote: "Statistically the chances of that occurring are very small." The question Cappuccino answers was inaudible on the broadcast.""Apparently" does not tell you if he in fact heard anything. The media has become such parasites that they want to be the first to say anything, even without the facts. Maybe the question was will he play again. No it doesn't look good but give the guy some time for his swelling to go down.
sdcopp 1 Report post Posted September 11, 2007 the fact that he has some feeling in his extremities is very very good in injuries like this. His chances at having a semi-normal life are very good as compared to complete paraysis. It's a really rough thing as his life will never be the same, but he already has a couple things going right for him. There are certainly things that could go wrong still, but I think the doctor is playing it conservatively so he doesn't breed any false hope. It's one of those things where you hope you're wrong. Fixxer 0 Report post Posted September 11, 2007 They had the doctor on local radio and he said chances of full recovery are about 5%, but he is able to hear what people say to him, feel touch sensations all over his body, and was displaying small voluntary movement in his legs. It will still be another day or so until the swelling goes down enough for them to get a good read on his situation. They also said he is able to breath and such on his own but they have him on a respirator and in a reduced state to help the process go as smoothly as possible. RadioGaGa 162 Report post Posted September 11, 2007 take it for what its worth but the doctors say the kid WILL walk again! wow! this was just reported on espn!I just heard the same story on TSN. They said he can voluntarily move his arms and legs...and said he will most likely walk out of the hospital. Mind you, it's probably still weeks (or months) away with lots of hard work and rehab to come...but this is amazing news, given the doom and gloom reports yesterday.
