Punching out the Arch

Recommended Posts

So, I bought a pair of One90's, but the arch is pretty damned high for my feet. I didn't really notice this until I skated in them for the 1st time. My LHS tech says he can punch down the arches, but that it would also compromise a lot of the support in the boot. Has anyone else done this, or even heard of this?

I just dropped my skates off at my LHS to have work done on the arch. They're going to do a combination of heat molding, punching and shaving to get the arch more suited to my foot. We'll see how they go.

If it gets fucked up I'll be down to JR in November to get fitted correctly into a new pair of skates.

taking away material from the inside of the arch. the whole inside is padded, so if you take some padding away you get more room. you use a tool similar to a razor for your face. you pull it across the padding and it cuts a small strip away.

the other method is sanding/griding in a similar fashion to shape the interior foam.

heat molding the padding can only compress it so much. if you don't get the room you want, take some padding away instead of changing the shape and structure of the boot.

Not intending to threadjack, but I have a question along these same lines.

My One90s fit very well, with one hotspot. On the lateral side of both feet, about halfway along the length, the bony prominence that juts out sideways is very pronounced on my feet. I've had this problem in every other skate I've had (goofy foot, wider skate wouldn't help), and I normally get that spot punched out. Can you punch that area out in the One90s? I had heard it wasn't possible to do.

my LHS tech punched my one90s out in the 5th metatarsal area, and it actually stayed since the material is so mouldable.

I'm going to try baking them again, and buying the grey Superfeet 1st before having him punch the arch. What does everyone think?

If you're looking for more room in the arch, the superfeet insole isn't for you. It has a pronounced plastic arch to help keep your foot upright.
