Easton S15

Recommended Posts

Fortunately our LHS ( Peranni's ) is giving us a brand new pair S15. Had current pair less than 3 months. Fell apart - first w/ seams and deteriorated outer sole. Not good for a 500 skate. He thinks we should move on now from the S15.

Not to sound like too big a dick, but it happens. It's part of hockey - boots fall apart, eyelets rip, steel snaps, holders crack, rivets pop and laces break...and those are just a few issues (of varying degree) that you'll have with your skates; we're not even going to get into the rest of the equipment.

It might well have been a one-time defect. You might have better luck next time. Then again, it might be a problem that would persist were you to put him a another pair of Eastons. You have two options: 1) risk it and go back to the S15s, or 2) say "forget it" and get him something different. Personally, I was burned by Graf (Canada) durability issues a few times before I finally decided to go back to the Vapor series...and have since switched back to Grafs again.

For what it's worth, I know a few guys who are in the S15s and have had no real complaints. Mostly just normal wear and tear to this point.

If you look further down in the other s15 post u will see a others are having the same problems. from my experience it wasnt just normal wear and tear. i will try and get pics up to show how they deteriated, and it seems like it may be a bit of a problem for the s15 considering how amazing a skate it is the durability seems to suck. im in the process of switching to vapor xxxx's because i dont want to risk the s15's prematurely breaking down again.

Until Easton puts a plastic toe cap over the composite shell and they find a better way to attach the leather instead of glue, these problems will continue. Otherwise they are an awesome skate.

havent got the vapors yet, do you think i will need a EE in them if i had an R in the s15's or will a D be ok? im assuming they dont do an E.

Knight you're totally right. Awesome skate, untouchable performance-wise. however the durability sucks. the glue was the main problem for me and i also had problems keeping the mush they try to cover the composite toe with to stay on. but plastic toe cap = extra weight unless they use a composite and then put a thin puck-style rubber over the top or something.

If you have never held a plastic toe cap by itself before, let me tell you that there isn't much weight to it. If it will make the skate that much more durable and to keep them from getting the bad rep that they are starting to get then it is well worth it. Who in their right mind would pass up a chance to make their skates last much longer to save 10 grams?

The Eastons are a really wide skate, whereas the Vapors are pretty narrow. But just to say that the width will be the only difference in the fit of the two boots would be to lie. They're really completely different.

In short: if R-width S15s fit you properly, D-width XXXXs won't even come close.

saber26 - i thought that to, but they will break down. it just takes a while and once they go, thats it. i hate to say it really because it is such a good skate and ive skated in easton for about 4 years now

everyone else - i used to wear a d width in the z-air comp se is it the same width or again are easton wider? ive also used a pair supreme 8000's in a d width and they were fine, is the vapor line more narrow than the supreme line?

i would try them on guys but im having to send away for them because i live in the uk and theres basically no pro shops - plus its much more expensive here.
