Who makes 13.5" shin pads?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone make 13.5" shin pads anymore?

If no one makes a 13.5" pad, could you recommend a beefy 13" pad? (I regularly block shots).

I'm a 5'7" adult, and I'm currently wearing 14" Jofa's. If I don't strap my shin pads down tight, they shift around on me when I take my strides and get knocked out of place. In fact, at the end of a typical game or pick up session, my shin pads usually turn to face the outside of my legs (e.g. left pad turns left and right pad turns to the right).

Thanks!

Mine were doing that until I found a good method of taping them. Diagonal taping from ankle to the tape notch helps a ton, taping in rings just snugs it but rotation can occur.

Are you wearing long underwear/under armor or anything? That will certainly keep you from keeping them in place from friction.

When I play hockey I usually tape minimally and they'll stay alright, they might shift on a dive or fall, but that's not too common.

When I play broomball (where lots of falling to the knees, sliding on the knees, blocking dives, etc) I need them extra secure so it's 2 around the ankle, to the knee for 4-5 wraps, back down to the ankle for another wrap or 2. Go once on the front and once on the back on the crosses. Those babies stay put to the point I can't straighten my legs. I love it.

I tried on some 13.5" 4k's (Fitlite) last night and they were quite small. I'm wearing Bauer 4000 14" now which are pretty loose. The Supreme 50/70/90 from Bauer fit much better, almost like a half size down from my current shins. You may want to look at those.

Alternately, the Bauer Lightspeeds and Jofa/RBK pads seem to fit pretty big, so you might get away with a 13" on those. A Bauer 6000 13" was too small for me though.

I'm 5'8" 170 and don't have particularly large or small legs/calves.

I'm 5'7" and I wear 14". I had an old pair of Jofas, which moved a bit, but were good with plastic tape right above the skate and below the knee. I just bought the new 9K shinpads and the new strapping system is great--they don't move at all. I do not know if a similar system is on the lower models. Your pads definitely should not be shifting sideways; with my old pair I would only experience min. downward shifting.
